after market amplifier for stock stereo

has anyone had any experience installing an after market amplifier to the stock stereo. Is the stock stereo capable of an after market amplifier? Was there engine noise? I would be using after market speakers as well. Just want to keep the stock look of the dash so I want to keep the stock head unit.

You should try looking at digital amps made by Eclipse. The stock HU does not out put like aftermarket HU in terms of wiring. HU sends an IP Buss signal that is converted by the amp into front, rear, left, right. To use an aftermarket amp you have to use speaker level to line level converters AFTER the JBL amp.

Found this thread searching. I assume the same is true for all wiring, that they must be connected AFTER the stock amp?

I ask because I will also be wiring up an amp to my stock unit. I have an RCA convertor that will need to be wired up along with the amp turn-on wire, since the stock head unit does not have RCA outs.

I used an adapter like this one.

These guys also make a 4 RCA version that I have. Works well. I use it with the Scion head unit, but the harnesses are the same. It includes a turn-on wire. I am assuming that your Sport has the same 6-speaker stereo that my '04 has. You just plug it into your stock harness and the radio.

Before I had my AVN5435 navigation system, I had a stock JBL 6 disc system with aftermarket infinity two-channel amp, infinity reference speakers in front, and infinity basslink.

I hooked it up after the stock JBL amp using the speaker-line input. Surprisingly, it sounded quite good. The important thing is to ground the amps down very well. As far as sound quality, it may only be slightly lower than my current setup.

The reason why I upgraded was because I wanted the new functionality of the aftermarket setup. But for just listening to CD's and using the USA spec auxilary adapter, SQ was more than adequate with the aftermarket amp after the stock amp.
