Turn signal bulbs

I just installed the '06 tail lights on my '05 and I have to say, they look great!!! Anyways, one thing I wanted to change was the turn signal bulbs because I don't like the orange tint it gives to the clear turn signal lens. The way I figure, I have three options.

1. LED : I read in other posts that LEDs look great but its not very bright during the day. I would prefer it to be as bright as it is during the day as with the stock amber bulbs. Also, since LEDs focus the light into a spot, would it look okay as signals because of the reflectors or would it still just focus the light despite the reflectors?

2. Silver Bulbs : These look very interesting but I remember a friend of mine buying these type of bulbs a really long time ago and complained that they were very dim. Even at night.

3. Blue Bulbs : I've had experience with bulbs coated in blue and they look very "white" compared to the yellowish tint you get from the plain old clear bulbs. However, the drawback is that cops around here sometimes give you a ticket just for having a blue bulb.

Any ideas or comments would be much appreciated. Also, if anyone has any of these types of bulbs installed, I would appreciate if you could tell me what your thoughts are and also if you could post any pictures that you might have.

Thanks everyone! I love this site but my wallet is feeling the pain, haha.

Are you trying to get rid of the "egg yoke" effect in the turn signals? You can try using high temp rattle-can (spray) silver paint and give it a coat or two. I haven't tried it myself, but I don't recall which forum I read it on, that the light will still flash orange and remain pretty bright, just there's no orange inside the light housing.

Personally, I stay away from blue blubs. Legality issue (in CA only amber or red signals in the back) aside, the blue tint effect in a clear turn signal housing looks worst than an orange effect, IMO.

Thanks Uneek. That's exactly what I'm trying to get rid of. The orange reflection of the bulb off the reflectors doesn't appeal to me. I couldn't care less if the signal itself was orange or white or whatever. Your recommendation would be perfect. However, one question. Do they already sell those prepainted? How is the brightness? Like I said in the previous post, I had a friend buy a set of these but they weren't for the signals. They were the really small bulbs and they were terrible when it came to brightness.

teamitazura22,

I don't know about the brightness. But seeing the cost of prepainted silver bulbs, I think $3 rattle-can paint and a couple spare bulbs are much cheaper.

Here's a how-to. Another.

Quick search on sellers of silver bulbs:
http://www.care4car.com/productdispl...tor_Bulbs.html
eBay

Edit: Remove "< br%20/ >" without the quotes and spaces from the URL address on the browser window for the eBay link to work.

JACKZ: I couldn't find any information on Sylvania Silverstar turn signal bulbs. Are you sure their for the rear turn signals? I even tried to do a search for Sylvania Silverstar 7440 but couldn't find anything.

Anyways, I ended up getting the PIAA Orange Mirror bulbs. They'll arrive on Monday so I'm going with those. I've never had any problems with PIAA's even in my previous car and in my 4R.

My mistake.........

Only available for the front.
I don't know what I was thinking..
I have the same tails as you and early on did some checking for the rear turn signal bulbs but never bought any.

JACKZ: I was also considering changing the fronts too. Does yours still blink amber or does it now blink white with the Sylvania Silverstars? I want to keep mine amber because of legal issues but want to minimize the egg yolk effect.
