Speaker upgrade, suggestions....

I have searched for a good answer but I am still not sure. Looking to replace the front and rear speakers in my 06 sr5. (non jbl, seems to have less room) Crutchfeild said 6x9 for front, but you only have 2.09" depth and 1.5" hieght, even with a spacer for the depth you only have about 3.5" total. I would like to use 6x9 or 6 componets and replace the tweeter as well. Crutchfled says nothing will fit. I can do some modiifcation but I feel if I adjust for the depth, the front of the speaker will hit the door Panel? Also the rear has 3.5" depth but only .333" for speaker height. Any specific suggestions would be a great help thanks!!!! I want to change the hu and add an amp, but if I can't change the door speakers I don't want to bother. ThankS !!! Jim

Yo.... welcome to the forum. I bought a full set (2 pairs) of Infinity Kappas, and gambled that they'd fit without any significant mods to the mounting area. They do fit perfectly. I cut out the stock 6x9 with Dr.Dremel, and glued some oval donuts that I made out of .75" MDF inside that oval ring. Then I mounted the Kappas to the MDF - in the exact middle of the oval so they wouldn't hit the door panel where it justs out and outlines the oval speaker shape. (Tough to explain, but you can see what I mean when you pull apart the door panel).

The rear was the same as the fronts, but I didn't have to fab an MDF donut, I epoxied the Kappa's thin metal mounting ring directly to the existing speaker's thick plastic mounting ring (after that speaker was cut out of it).

So, minor fab work and the Kappas fit perfectly without any depth problems.
