2006 4Runner SR5 remote start w/factory remote??

I recently installed a remote start unit for my 2006 4Runner and would like to use the factory remote to control the aftermarket remote start module.

I have been able to set it up to start but once started the factory keyless will not unlock the doors. I understand the factory keyless module is built into the ECM and because it is not a seperate unit it appears this may be an impossible task to trick the factory keyless by simply removing it's ignition source only during remote start so it will unlock.

So when I found this forum I though maybe somebody out there has successfully completed a remote start like this and possible has some suggestions they can send my way?? If anyone has wiring diagrams detailing the factory keyless sytem or the selectable options that can be performed at the dealer I would greatly appreciate it!

Many of today's aftermarket alarms give you the option to control the system by remote (lock/unlock) even when the key is in the on position and if this factory kelyess system has that programable feature then my problem is solved!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

want this on my 07 SE too !

Did you get any insight since your post? I am also looking to get a remote start but will only do it if I can use the factory remote.

Also looking to get a VIP 3200 alarm system installed as well, not sure what to do first.

Anyone know if Toyota makes a remote start for the 4runner ? I read somewhere they make one for the Avalon, I wonder if it can be modified for the 4runner.

These guys are developing a system for the 4-runner that is plug-n-play and uses the factory remotes

I havent checked lately on the status, but you can email them and they will respond in a day or two. I think I will email them as well as it has been a while since the last update.

I use the factory remote to start the car using two lock commands in quick sequence (within 3 sec). As you said, once you start the car the remote is inhibited.

However, I have discovered that you can still unlock the car in the several second pause between the two lock commands and the actual car's starting. In this way the car can be unlocked after remote starting if you wish - either the driver's door or all doors.

Try it!
