Guys,
I dropped a note to the folks at OEMVALUE.com and here's some news regarding the 2004 CAMRY NAV being installed with the 4RUNNER 10 SPEAKER JBL SYSTEM:
<I>
Bryan,
You're the first one to hear this news. I recently had a Toyota technician, VERY helpful guy, try to install this unit in his 2004 4Runner with the already equipped 10 speaker JBL sound system. He knew this unit was not going to work right away as he was aware of the no sound issue, but he was determined to figure out a way to make it work. After looking at a few wiring schematics, he came to the conclusion that the 4Runner's JBL amplifier accepts different frequencies or something of the sort for sound (TX channels), something the Camry Navigation unit does not output. It is next to impossible to make these units work with a 4Runner 10 speaker JBL sound system.
The GOOD news. I recently ran across a Solara Navigation system that does not work with the Camry 2004 Amplifier. I told the Toyota technician to skim a few of the wiring manuals and tell me what's the difference between the two. One difference: The Solara has the ability for XM function. Second difference: The Solara has the TX channels, same as the 4Runner. I shipped the technician the Solara unit and I'm waiting to see if this unit will work with his application. He's almost positive it will, however you never know for sure until you actually try it out. Feel free to quote me on the message boards, I will be posting the new information soon on my web site if the Solara unit does work with the 4Runner's 10 speaker JBL sound system. Please note that the Solara unit will ONLY work with Solara and 4Runner JBL sound system. It's not a 10 speaker issue as the Camry unit works fine with the 2003-2004 Sequoia 10 speaker sound system. <B> If possible, please thank everyone on the message boards for me for all their research and posting all the helpful information. Especially Pete, he's done a lot of good work. </B>Thanks
-Troy

Gentlemen,
The word is quickly getting around the local forums (esp. T4R.ORG) about the NAV system that OEMVALUE is offering via the web.
See this link:
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showth...ght=navigation
and a user's page at:

But there seems to be some confusion about the compatibility of this 2004 Camry unit
with the 10 Speaker JBL sound system that many of us have installed in our 4Runners.
Can you shed some light on whether this is true, and any specific work around so that
the NAV unit functions properly?
Specifically, here's what a user posted:

I just tried installing a 2004 Camry navigation unit into my 2004 4Runner equiped with the 10speaker JBL stereo...
The connectors look right but doesn't seem to work. Doing some research, I had a buddy from Toyota print off a copy of each wiring diagram.
2004 4Runner with JBL 10 Speaker Diagram
2004 Camry Wiring w/Nav
On the factory headunit (10 speaker) it has 2 extra wires going to the amplifer labeled TX+ and TX-, which I think controls the "surround" sound that the 10 speakers have, which the Camry nav does not. Plus there was no remote lead to turn on the amplifier.
Looking at the Camry diagram I noticed that the outputs can be used as Pre-Outs and tested and successfully used instead of going to the included Camry JBL amp, then converting back from HI-level (speaker output) back down to Low-Level, (thus causing less distrotion) I tested this, and it works fine.... I used a Pheonix Gold PLD (Line Driver) to make the output higher since the stock unit gives out maybe .200V wheras new head units (aftermarket)give 4V, to boost the line level sound. The only thing you lose, "which i found so far", is that you do not get the "Beep" sound when hitting buttons, since you are not connecting the beep wire from the Camry headunit.
After playing with that... Im still undecided if I am going to keep this unit, since I would have to use a seperate external amplifer, and lose the 10 speaker system.
Also! The factory JBL unit does not have a trim bezel, like the ones in the SR5's so you would have to order the silver dash piece to make the unit look good, since there are 1cm spaces around the left and right edges of the unit.
Anyone, have any other ideas?
