Bluetooth OBD- Discuss

Hello All,
I'm in the market for a decent OBD-II Bluetooth or wireless adapter I can synchronize to my iPhone. I see Amazon has 8 gazillion of them..... Anyone have a favorite? I don't mind spending a little extra for a smaller one so I don't kick it and one that is reliable. I'm looking to monitor trans temps and perform troubleshooting when needed.

Cheers, James

What year is your 4runner?

Most people here use Torque if you're on Android, no idea what iOS people use.

A lot of OBD II adapters are compatible with Torque I think, but I personally have the one made by 'BAFX' products and it has 6k good reviews on amazon. Don't kill yourself over analysis paralysis, just get this one if you are on Android.

Not as familiar with Apple (IOS) solutions. Most of the OBD dongles on the market work with Android or Windows thru bluetooth. Apple does not permit bluetooth connection in this way. Scantool does sell a wifi dongle. The reviews are low. It appears the wifi times out after 1/2hr?

I have a Scantool MX bluetooth connected to Android phone. My Dodge diesel RPM gauge is always off. I connect to a spare Android phone for live feed RPM while towing. I can go many hours with zero problems. The same Scantool MX connects to many vehicles. Information available depends on the vehicle. Every vehicle has different information available.

Amazon link for Apple Scantool

My 4Runner is a 2016, thanks for the heads up regarding Bluetooth and iOS issues! Looks like I might just go with a cable.

Thanks for the help.
Cheers, James
