General Grabber X3 (Fall 2016 Release)

Surprised search didn't turn up anything here on this given the number of tire threads (what's one more?!). New offering coming from General Tire this fall. It looks like something in the increasingly popular hybrid AT/MT market segment. The tread pattern reminds me of the Toyo MT the most.

General is usually good about posting specs on their tires so I'll be curious about the real-world diameter and weight of their 295/70/17 and 315/70/17 offerings (as I'm looking to upsize to as close to 34" as I can get without going to a 35" tire; real-world difference is only about .5 inch, but it makes a huge difference on the fit with our IFS).

Grabber X3 // Coming Soon | General Tire

Looks like this may be a great option for us. ...and...discuss!

Looks nice but no 275 in a 17"...looks like stock or 285 is the only option if you want to run these on stock size rims.

Not directed specifically here, but if anyone were to manufacture a 265 75 or 80 17, they'd be a great seller. These tires look kinda like every other generic mud tire. Nothing wrong with that. But nothing really special either.

the Continental rep was at my local tire place with a 35" cutout. Held up to the 285 duratracs and the lug pattern is massive in comparison. One issue was the sidewall was not very aggressive. Overall I was very pleased with the design. We talked for a bit about engineering and this tire has been in development for quite some time. Part of the reason the current Grabber is only available in a few sizes is they spent engineering time on the X3 development.

I was planning on going to MTRs when the time to switch comes but I may go with these. Huge factor for me is weight so if you end up emailing about the specs for the 295 and 315 and get a reply, please post it up here.

Here's the projected size line up. Pic is a little blurry.

Tread, showing high void pattern. Some siping, which is better than the Grabber Red Letter - which had none!

I couldn't agree with you more. I'd love a tall & skinny in a near 35" size, but no one makes one :-(

Same here. It's really tough to beat the MTR for weight due to their use of Kevlar. I know the Toyo MT, which has a similar tread profile to the X3, is a freaking heavy-a$$ tire. If these are even remotely close to the MTR, they'll be worth a look for sure IMHO.

Looks more like a proper mt rather than a hybrid. Their most aggressive current tire is less of a mud tire and more of a desert tire. It'll be interesting to see if they do a hybrid next as their current at is just nowhere near as aggressive of most of the offerings out there right now.

Anyone running Grabber X3s on a TRDP 4Runner? Thoughts? Pics?

I have been searching the forum for some info on the Grabber X3 285/70/17 on a TRDP, how much lift, trimming, etc... is required. Not having much luck. Thanks in advance!

The current Grabber X3 in 285/70/17 is shown at 70 lbs. one of the heaviest tires out there.

I just started a serious search for tires and found these. I'll probably go with the 295/70R17 unless I go with something else. I like the price point; about $220/ea. I like the raised red lettering too.

I'm glad you pointed this out. I hadn't looked that deep and that is a heavy tire! 50# for the full set. Which is definitely a fuel factor! DAMMIT! They look good and the 295 was what I was looking for!

she's close to 70 lbs, 67.036 to be exact. That is for the LT285/70R17 121/118Q GRABBER X3.
