'99 SR5 Keyless entry Problems

yesterday i bought a '99 SR5 2WD. its my first 4runner and im stoked about owning it. this is my first post here but i was a regular at "the saab network" as my last car was a '91 saab 9000.

anyway in the excitment of buying the 4runner i didnt check the keyless entry untill after i had bought the truck. to my suprise it didnt work. i figured that the battery must be out in the remote unit, so i changed that. sill no luck. i did some searching and found some info on how to reprogram the keyless entry system for new remotes but that did not work either.

i know the truck has a keyless entry system because it came with the remote, there is a security LED under the dash light dimmer, and i have a toyota VIP sitcker on the window.

im thinking that the system may be disengaged or there is a fuse blown somewhere. i looked online but was unable to find specific info on how the system is hooked up. i think i have a rs3000 or a rs3200 but am unsure as how to tell the difference.

does anyone know where i can find info on how these systems are hooked up and where they are located in the truck? or any ideas as what the problem is whith my system.

thanks.

-Mike

Keyless Entry

1. I would take it back to the place I bought in and ask them to fix it.
2. If you have only 1 remote and it does not work, it takes at least one working remote to reprogram others on your own. Otherwise the dealership must do it with a little computer.
3. Take it to the dealership, but be prepared to bend over and take it like a man.

i tried to get the place where i bought the truck to fix it but they said the truck was sold "as is".

i ordered the haynes and chiltron books for my year, hoping there will be some info there. its probably not likely but it will be good to have the refs.

anyway as for the dealer that is a last resort, im going to look for more info tonight.
