Full-Time vs Part-Time 4WD Explained with Disassembled Transfer Cases

I feel obligated to share this awesome video from the Transmission Lab at the Weber State University Automotive Technology Department. He thoroughly explains the difference between part time and full time 4wd using disassembled transfer cases from both a 2013 Tundra and a 2004 4Runner.

I've always been a fan of the Torsen center diff, but seeing it disassembled and up close sure brought a whole new level of appreciation. What a piece of wizardry!

I share your sentiment about the Torsen center diff... it is one of my favorite things about my 4th Gen.

I've had a Torsen differential in my Camaro road course car since 2003, and was glad to hear Toyota was using these in their transfer cases. No clutch packs to wear out like the Auburn posi-trak, no abrupt bang when it disengages like Eatons, and it does an excellent job of distributing torque in corners without excessively heating the gear oil.
