Climate Control Off, but air still coming thru vent?

Hi everybody. The last few weeks in Illinois were pretty frigid and I ran my heater every day. Well, it's finally warmed up now and I turned the climate control off, yet it is still running at the low setting even when the monitor shows off. Has anyone ever had this problem?

Is the fan running when the system is off, or are you feeling air coming through the vents when you are moving?

The fan is running at what feels like the low setting. Everything shows off.

Is it set on fresh-air/intake or recirculate? Usually at faster speeds above 30mph, on fresh-air/intake air will push through the vents even when the fan is shut off. Setting it on recirculate will stop air from coming through the vents when the fan is off.

I have a 2007 sr5 . Mine does it too. I figured it out. When you had the temperature either "Hi" or "Lo" and turn the fan off. It still keeps giving air inside. The solution is to have the temperature on any number like 84 or 85 instead of "Hi" before you turn the fan "off"

Hmm, I will try that next chance I get and see if it works. I keep my temp at 80 normally, I only ran it on high when it was 5 degrees here. I also tried switching to recirculate and it still sounds the same.

I noticed that on my 03 occasionally I will be driving and get pretty chilled after dark with the A/C on here in Central FL but anyway... I'll hit the off button and continue to feel what seems like refrigerated air coming through the vents my fix to this thus far has just been turn the air temperature setting up to a suitable temp, but after seeing how it has to be on a number setting I might try this and see if it corrects it.

I've tried it all guys. I think something is stuck open or on. It's only a little bit bothersome, so I'll deal with it until I get a chance to go by the dealership and figure out the problem. I'll post the fix when it's done.

The dash vent closest to the driver's door had air flowing through it when the system had gone to heater mode. All of the air should have been coming out of the floor vents. The center and passenger side dash vents had no air flow, only the drivers side vent. I had to manually turn off that vent to keep air from coming through it.

I just re-opened the vent this past weekend while using the AC. When temperatures dropped overnight, the system went from AC into heat mode, and the vent closed as it should.

Maybe it was just stuck the first time? I'll be keeping an eye on it and if the problem returns, the truck will be going to the dealer.

Alright, I've only had my 4Runner for 15 months now so you'll have to excuse me on this one. I dropped some change behind my passenger seat yesterday and when I put my hand down to get it, I felt hot air blowing underneath the seat. LOL, someone turned on my rear heater which is controlled on the back side of the center console. Problem fixed. Thanks for the replies.

Looks like we have more in common than just way cool usernames. I have seen the exact same thing. Just in the vent closest to the driver door - heat constantly, even with the temp set at 65 (without A/C on). I closed the vent, thinking it was some sort of bug in the system. Since it's cold all day now, it doesn't bother me so I don't know if anything has changed.

My 72 is not 72 degrees. Anything above that number will blow out air so hot it will melt wax.

The HVAC is the worst overall system in the 4th gen, wish they would just go back to a knob with color.

you have to understand how it works...72 does NOT mean the air coming out of the vent is 72 degrees. that is the target tempature for the cabin.

for example if it is 20 degrees in your cabin, and you put the temp on 60, it will still blow heat. if its 130 in the cabin and you put the temp on 60, it will go to maximum cool.

That part is understood.

What I don't understand is how when I have the temp setting at 65 (w/o AC), and the fan setting at OFF, I get the cooler temp fresh-intake air coming out of every vent except that upper one closest to the driver's door, which has HOT air coming out of it.

I don't remember if that is still true when the fan is ON or not though, I'll have to try that out.
