Mike -

Glad to read you are back in business.

I have read/been told that the mounting/balancing and install need to be done with finesse.

My local shop (specializes in Toyota) are pretty fussy when working on my truck. No air guns on the lugs since you can warp the rotors.

I drove 160 miles R/T on Monday and the truck drove great. Not a shimmer or shake. Even at "highway" speed ++.

With a few miles on the truck, I feel a big difference in the ride compared with my worn 'flops. The truck is not skittish crossing railroad tracks, no tire spin when turning under acceleration and less plowing in off ramp turns. At a jackrabbit start (gun it) she does not spin the tires.

Just a month or so till snow season! Bring it!

I am very glad as well. I tested it out on the highway and everything seemed to be fine. No steering wheel shaking of any kind.

I also feel a difference now as well. The tires aren't as loud as I anticipated, but definitely a little louder than the OEM Bridgestone's.

I can't wait until the snow starts falling!!! I thought my 4Runner did great in the snow with the Bridgestone's. I'm going to be amazed now with the Silent Armor's on:awais:

Just a quick update (man this thread got long). I haven't had a lot of experience in snow with these yet but we had some greasy snow around today - the kind that tends to plug up your treads. These tires did wonderful. I'm very pleased, they grip great. As for ice, we had a good ice storm last week and I did a fair amount of driving around - pretty much forgot there was ice.

I'll have to try them on some solid ice at some point of course to give you a real idea of how they do. Also, I can't compare these to any of the other tires people have had. Anyway, I love em. Cheers!

Thanks for keeping me in the loop. I talked with a guy here today who thinks the blizzaks are better than studs......says studs glide on wet roads.........nice to have options...........

In the past 9 days we got about a foot of snow, an inch or two of ice (you might have read about our "little" power outages here in New England) and are getting another 8+ inches of snow today.

Still love these Silent Armors which are like glue and seem to have gotten better with 21,000 miles on them and seem to stick better.

Not a whole lot of wear noticeable on them - including a 5,000 mile all highway cross country trip to Montana from Massachusetts.

My only noticeable issue is that when I hit those little ribbons of asphalt patch on the cracks with a light rain I notice a smal amount of slip on one particular corner - but I think that is related more to the fact that the ribbons of fill patch are on a right-hand turn going up a hill. It is not bad, but if you are not aware of it on that particular corner it can catch you off guard for a milisecond. I don't think it is the tires though.

Although, when changing lanes on the highway and you hit that little ridge of ice and shmutz between the lanes you can feel the push of it - not that any tire is really going to affect that too much.

Review in snow and ice

As stated, winter has indeed arrived.

While we only lost power for 2 days (some lost it for a week) the ice was a bit nasty.

After driving with that storm and a few others I can give you my impressions.

These tires don't throw water on the windshield with driving through deep water. :awais: I hated that with the 'flops.

Overall, I am glad I chose these tires. The truck handles powder and plowed snow up to 12" like it's not there.

I notice a significant improvement in turning in snow. Good bite, even in the sloppy slippery stuff. Not the case with the 'flops.

Stopping ability is also greatly improved.

While Mike and I did report additional noise, I don't hear it much anymore. Just a matter of getting used to it.

We are getting a Nor'easter today (major storm where the winds blow from the N.E.) and expect 12-18" today and tonight.

No big thing

Still waiting for some darn snow to test these babies out! I got a new digital camera for Christmas, so, when the snow does finally decide to start falling, I will snap some pics! I mean come on, it was almost 70 degrees here this past Saturday! Ridiculous.

took the plunge last weekend. got 265/70-17 again. they are significantly quieter than my nittos with 45k+ miles on the highway. in fact, i think they are quieter than the stock dunlops. can't wait to test them off road.

Tough as nails, very protective of the wheels, if I recall right they lasted about 50,000+ miles, never felt out of balance, started sliding a bit when wet at the end of their life. Winter and rain traction was tops.

Just picked up a set of these in 275/70R17C for myself, was really torn between the BF Goodrich T/A KOs and these Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors, finally decided on the silent armors due to the set being $200+ cheaper than the BFG TAKOs. Will post pictures once they're on the car.

These just might be my next tire as well. Wish they were a little cheaper though!

Thanks for all the info about these over the years, all of you.
