JBL Factory Sub Questions
Hello fellow T4R brethren!!!
So, I recently traded in my '15 T4R LE for a '18 TRD ORP. Love the new rig and everything about it with one exception...........the lack of a factory subwoofer.
Unlike many people on here, I was perfectly happy with the JBL system that was in my LE. The sub was plenty for me and I love that it was hidden in the rear cargo panel.
Anyhow, I found a factory JBL sub enclosure (see below) complete with the amp & sub and was hoping to install it into my non-JBL system. I have since found that installing this may not be as easy as I had hoped.
Two Questions:
1) Is there any way to connect this factory amp to my non-JBL Entune head unit on my '18 ORP with a wiring harness? I have looked everywhere but cannot find information on this installation. I did find this product but wasn't sure if that was what I needed.
2) I'm not positive but think this JBL subwoofer came out of a 4th generation T4R. I do not believe these sub units have changed over the years but am not certain. Will the mounting brackets match up with the frame of my 2018?
Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer. I have searched countless threads but everything I find pertains to adding aftermarket amps/subs to the factory enclosure. I would prefer to keep it factory, especially if I have the ability to plug and play the unit with a wiring harness.
Factory sub that I picked up locally...
My rear interior panel...
Much love,
Chitwood

sorry for the stupid question: Have you called Crutchfield? They would know and sell ya all the necessary hardware. Pretty sure they sell OEM-like enclosures. Regarding if you can use a factory sub, I really doubt it as ( you may or not know), the JBL are a different kind of animal. You just can't use a JBL sub with a non-JBL set up. AT least that how the 4th gens are.
Good luck

better off to sell that than to integrate it with the non jbl system. if you want a sub that wont take alot of room, a good fiberglass sub enclosure and the right sub will do the job, and sound way better with a decent amp. plus with the aftermarket stuff, when you hate the entune system, you can change to another deck and wire the amp directly to the unit with better sound.

Thanks for the feedback. I wouldn't mind updating the head unit but doing so on the 5th gen models is much more difficult than the 4th gen. It requires a new piece of trim to make up for the loss of the power/volume and tune/scroll knobs. This trim also doesn't match the new black metallic finish that came on my '18 ORP. I have seen people on the forum that are taking the new trim piece to an auto body shop just to get the paint to match. Crazy.
May keep the JBL enclosure and add a new amp/sub combo. Just love having the sub behind the OEM panels. I put gear in my cargo space all the time and don't want to jockey around with a sub box regardless of how small it is.

even if you put that box in, how is the trim panel going to look? you can change out the sub and amp, but use a line output converter to get signal for new amp. audio control lc2i is a good one. they do have amps that has that built in.

For the trim panel, I was planning on adding a mesh panel over the current holes that are used for the storage. I was planning on removing or cutting out the inner storage pockets to make room for the JBL sub enclosure.
The line out converter seems to be my only option for getting a signal to the sub. I also read that the LC2I may be my best option.
I was just hoping that there was some sort of wiring harness available for the Entune head units. I'm guessing that there are different Entune head units for JBL and non-JBL installations in the T4R.

to make a plug and play harness, you will need 2 sets of harness do to the mod, lots of 2 pairs of speaker wire and a remote turn on wire is need, take the main harness and splice them together, the rear speaker will need to have the extra speaker wires connected, even doing this and wanting to upgrade later, might be a better option to run the 9 conductor cable. so when you want to do a full setup later you can use the wires.
to do the cheap way, just run 2 pairs of speaker wire along with a turn on wire, and tap to the rear or front for signal. some amp can take speaker wire signal without the use of line out converter. I still prefer using the lc2i as im more familiar to it. like the lc6. but for that kind of money a new radio is better.
good luck on your project.

have you ever thought of adding an under seat sub? Kicker, Pioneer and Kenwood has some good sub. I have the pioneer one and it fits perfectly under my driver seat. I just tap into the rear speaker harness from the back of the radio.
here's a write up if you need to tap into the speaker harness.

Hello Chitwood,
I found this post as what I’m looking for. I have got a used stock 5th gen subwoofer and amp for my 2015 4R with no-JBL stereo. I wondering if it would be compatible and what’s the harness part number?
Any success on your job? Please share with me your feedbacks.
Thanks,
