Which speakers w/Scioin T1806

Okay, while I'm waiting on a solution for the iPod functionality, it is fairly obvious the T1806 has a little more bump to it than the factory speaks can handle. So I defer to my audiofile pals on the forum and ask:

What front/rear speakers should I replace the factories with? Is there any kind soul out there that has some experience with the T1806 and aftermarket speakers?

Also:

It needs more thump...not king kong in the trunk, just like a 10" or so, maybe even an 8". What sub and amp combo can I get on a modest income that will work with the T1806 and fill that bass need of mine when King Kong is playing on the radio?

Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I would first chuck in four decent door speakers and then worry about bass if you are still not satisfied. The factory paper speakers are molded into an adaptos, so you will need four adaptors from Scosche or tacotunes.

There are a dozens of great replacement speakers out there. It is personal preference and budget that make the decision. Go to circuitcity, bestbuy, etc and listen. Then pick a brand and buy them on ebay or elsewhere.

I found these adaptors for adding aftermarket speakers.:http://www.cardomain.com/item/SCOSAT69

And also here.
http://tacotunes.com/

I converted the fronts to match the backs .. all 6.5" inch speakers all the way around. The fronts are origianally 6x9s and the rear doors are 6.5inch.

Thanks for the replies GF. I'm going to buy some infinity reference or kappa. I had those on a civic I had with a panasonic HU and was fairly impressed.

One queston: Do the fronts have to be 6.5" or can I put 6x9 up there? Is it better to just have all 6.5's?

Also, I might get the component set and install the tweeter in that upper speaker mount on the front doors. Anyone done a similar tweeter install and have pointers?

Thanks again for the help. jb

It does not have to be 6.5 s all around. I like 6.5s and there are dozens of selections for 6.5s. They should also sound better because of their geometry.

I did not use separate little tweeters. Just four new door speakers. The improvement will be very noticeable once you get rid of the paper OEM speakers.

Okay, that's the advice I was looking for. Thanks bunches, I'll stick with the 6.5s and the tweeter component.

It was a lot of work for me to modify the fronts to accept 6.5 inch rounds.

Didn't realize this. So - what is the "drop in" size for these speakers? I assume you will still need brackets.

And what is a reccommendation for someone with a "casual ear" for speakers that are a moderate price?

I made my own speaker adaptors. This was before I learned about the other two listed sources. I did not check to see if they offer a 6.5

If you do plan on adding a sub, you will have to get a mono amp. I built my own enclosure for my 8" sub. To make that work, you will have to get a line-output converter that gives you RCA plugs to go to the amp. I ended up putting in a four channel amp + a mono amp.
