Hi guys... so bought the TRD wheels and put these ATXs on stock size. I got the impression from online reviews that this was quiet tire. I guess my experience is a bit different where my noise level went up about say 30% from stock Dunlops. Was that your experience as well? I have 45 days to exchange them so wondering if they were initially lound and then got better? I do realize they will be louder but man i can hear them sing at 50.

Also, they do ride very smooth and look awesome but not sure i can live with with the sharp hum.

Website says the p rated 265/70/17 ATX’s are 44 lbs. Same or similar to weights of Duratracs, Wildpeaks, KO2s (c load). Look great!

Friend's dad has those on his 2012 FJ Cruiser, great in sand and mud.

He did rip it on a sharp rock on a 1 degree incline, so there's that as well. To be fair, the rock was four feet long and shaped like Pride Rock from the Lion King, while also sharper than a diamond.

Sound is purely subjective so this is a tough one. What you’re experiencing is likely the inevitable increase in sound inherent with any aggressive AT tire. When people note they’re quite, it’s relative to the aggressiveness of the tire. If you had an MT tire on, you’d have greater appreciation for how “quite” these are.

When I jumped from the stock highway tires to my first ATs, I expected the worse and was therefore happy. If you’re expecting or desiring highway tire ride and noise, you’ll only achieve that with a highway tire. These will not get any more quite...they’ll get louder as they wear.

If you don’t need an AT because you don’t go off road, exchange them for a tire that will meet your needs.

Thanks for the reply. Funny, driving these over the last few days, I am getting used to the increased noise. These look so much nicer with white lettering on the outside. I got the matte gray wheels to go with the gray color of the truck and to my eyes the whole thing looks like it is ready for adventure!

One of tires has too much balancing weight stuck on it so I am going to have them replace it. Funny, that is the side the 4Runners pulls to while driving i.e. right. I asked them to make sure the roadforce values for all tires are below 15lbs based on my previous experience with the SR5. I could not get rid of the highway shake until they balanced with less than 15lbs rodforce. Will post a picture once the skid plate is on...

By the way if anyone is interested, the total weight of the General ATx 265 75 70 P and TRD Gray wheel is 70.5lbs combined which is exactly the same as the TRD OR stock wheel and Dunlops. My MPG seems to be down by 1 overall.

Hey there, I'm about to order the General Grabber ATX in 265/70/17 but I am also torn between these and the Falken Wildpeaks AT3. Now, with that said, do you have any reservations about the General Grabber ATX's? I am mostly driving paved roads with the occasional off-road trip here and there plus muddy gravel roads up north. Basically, I am trying to have you convince me either way. I was originally dead set on Cooper AT3 4s's but I read two reviews that said they were a little squirrely on turns on dry pavement and didn't corner that well. That put me off and I had to special order them. Just wanted to ask you for a longer term follow up. Thanks in advance.

I have NO reservation in recommending these tires! They seriously have checked all the boxes for me. I would compare them to the German Shepherd breed of dog. They may not be the very best at any one particular thing, but they rate extremely high in every category. And there is a reason they are trusted with some of the most demanding lines of work.

I don't have an exact measurement for you, but after a couple thousand miles they still look new. General touts their DuraGen Technology with these, in regards to even wear and chip resistance, and so far I have no reason not to believe them.

The car went into the shop today. I got them in stock size on Matte Grey TRD Pro wheels. I cant wait for the call to pick her up. Stay tuned for pics...

Ok, I got them installed last Friday and I love them so far. Great dry grip. Planted and sure footed. Corners well. They are quiet too. I have taken them in light rain and tried to get them to hydroplane, but there wasn't enough water to test that. I also have not taken off-road yet. I did have a really had a hard time getting them to lose grip even from a standstill and punching the gas and turning the steering wheel. Solid grip.

I got them in 265/70/17 had them install the white lettering inside so it doesn't show and I think they look fantastic with the Grey TRD Pro Wheels I got on the 40th anniversary sale. I have driven them for a few hundred miles and need to bring them in for a rebalance. I get a slight vibration at highways speeds between 60-80 MPH. I will give the tire company another chance to get them just right. I will also suggest they reduce the road force applied to 15 lbs. as suggested earlier to see if that fixes the vibration. Otherwise they are slick.

They are 2 ply. But per General Tire, they use larger cords so as to be comparable to 3 ply.
