Falken Rubitrek A/T

Hi. Just wanted to see if anyone has the Rubitrek on their ride. Tried looking up these tires but not a lot of info on them.

It is a curious tire. If you look at the Falken website, the descriptions and data about this tire are practically the same as for the Wildpeak. The center tread is different and maybe the shoulder protectors have a little more coverage (those on the Wildpeak have gaps).

I feel like they've been redesigning their AT tires every two years. Just can't seem to get it right for anything longer.

Maybe, but since the Wildpeak is the stock tire on the Jeep Gladiator and is selling very well (#2 behind KO2 in 265 70 17 at Discount Tire), this cannot be the case here.

I wonder if it is a version offered for a particular retailer?

It is interesting to look at different approaches: BFG and Firestone have one At and one MT, whereas Nitto and Cooper have a bunch of ATs.

It does get gimmicky to me when they have too many designs considering that not a single Nitto AT offers a 3-ply sidewall. At least Cooper covers an entire range from very mild AT to the heavy duty ST MAxx.

But hey, style sells and function suffers, the same old song over and over again.

I’m due for a new set of tires and was really looking into the Wildpeaks AT3s but then I saw this tire and it piqued my curiosity.

Just wanted to know if anyone on here had any real world experience with these tires and how it compares to the AT3s

I recall someone posting about it but do not recall if they actually used it or just noticed it existed.

BUT wait! There is more! LOL. There is the Sumitomo Encounter AT which has a different tread but extremely similar characteristics to Wildpeak. Of course, Sumitomo owns Falken and all those tires are made in the same Thailand factory.

Interestingly enough, my new Wildpeak single tire is US-made. I am not sure where and not sure since when they have expanded to have US production of this tire.

So, yeah, looks a bit like the old GM/Buick/Chevy vehicles, same thing with minor differences.

I think I'm going to test try a set of these on my Tacoma. On the T4R I actually considered this design but swayed towards Wildpeaks for that fatter wheel/tire look. This tread looks very similar to BFG.

I have these on my 2015 4runner Trail. I have had them for around 5,000 miles or so.

From what I understand the tire shops that buy directly from Falken can sell this tire. That's what I was told by Tire Choice anyway.

I went to buy the Wildpeak and they showed me this tire as well. It is almost identical to the Wildpeak AT3/W if you look on Falken's website and compare the two.

When I saw the two in person, side by side, I actually preferred the Rubitrek.
They have been wearing well so far and are fairly quiet considering the tread pattern. They handle very well in the rain.

I bought the P265/70/17. They seem to be larger than the other 265's I have seen. In the shop they stood it up next to the Yokohama Geolandar G015 and it looked at least a quarter inch to half inch taller.

They told me the previous Wildpeak wasn't that great but this was a really good redesign. Also the Wildpeak is going to come stock on the 2020 Rav4 TRD Off-Road model. That should give some confidence to possibly buyers.

I just came from America’s Tire earlier today and I asked one of the employees if they could order the Rubitrek and the employee tried looking in their system but couldn’t find the tire. So that employee called Falken directly and asked if they could order it but he was advised that the tire is only available to select dealers.

So now I have to call or email Falken to see which dealers sells the Rubitreks.

FYI, Tires Easy website has them available for order -- plus free shipping.

I've been happy with my Cooper Discoverer A/Tw (stock size), but I think I'm going to replace them with Rubitreks when the time comes.

How wide are they compared to the Wildpeaks? Just looking at the pictures between the Rubitrek and Wildpeak, the Rubitrek seems thinner.

Falken advised me that Majco Big Brand Tires carries the Rubitreks. So I went to their site and there’s one by my house about 20+ miles. The Rubitreks are definitely cheaper in price than the Wildpeaks and it looks like I’ll be going this route in the near future.

I wish that America’s Tire Co. would carry these tires along with the Wildpeaks AT3W.

It does but cheaper than the Coopers. The Rubitreks are around $128 for the 31x10.5r15 and around $117 for the non LT265/70R17 tires. It’s way cheaper than the Wildpeaks and they both use the same compounds.

So I finally got the Rubitreks installed about an hour or so ago. I went with the 265/70R17s. Gotta say, I’m digging the look of these tires and so far the ride has been great.

I ended up purchasing the tires from Majco Big Brand Tires in Canoga Park. Total out the door was around $617 and change.

I replaced my old 15” BFG KOs with these tires and the 4th gen Sports edition 17” wheels.

Falken Rubitrek A/T-img_2219-jpg

There is some slight rubbing on my stock UCAs but that’s when the steering wheel is in full tilt. I might have to bite the bullet and purchase the SPC UCAs earlier than expected and get it before the price increase and purchase it from Battle Born Off-road. But we’ll see how it goes, I still have a bit of time left before the sale ends.

This is more geared towards daily driving to commute back and forth to work and maybe once in a blue moon some dirt and fire roads. But it for sure isn’t a mall crawler, that dubious honor goes to my wife’s Sequoia.
