My 2014 T4R SR5 Premium 4WD has 86,000 miles on it. I put BFG KO2 tires on it 61,000 miles ago, and the tires are still hanging in there. I do feel them slip a bit now and then when on wet roads.

Realistically speaking, how long will these tires last? Was looking at the Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S in 265/70 R17. DTD has them for $160 each, and there is a 10% cash back rebate, plus a $70 rebate, putting the 4 tire total at $506. One rebate ends tomorrow, the other ends later on. Thinking of pulling the trigger and storing them in the garage until the KO2s die.

Thoughts?

Sorry for the hijack......but how is the noise level in cabin? Does it get noisier with age? Does it bother you ? Or just a mild road noise?

Definitely noisier as they age. Not loud at all when they were new, but almost unbearable today. I had good year duratracs on my FJ cruiser and those are as loud as the KO2 are today with 60k miles on them.

If you are feeling it slip is it really that worth it to stretch it?

I change my tires once it hits the wear indicator.

The KO2s have always slipped a little in wet surface. The tires are still a bit higher than the wear indicator

I have ran BFG's long enough that dry rot started setting in. Its not always about tread, but age and the degradation of the rubber compound. Thats why tires have dates on them.

I have 50,000 miles and 3 years on my KO2's. They're at about 8/32 now. I'll probably run them one more winter and evaluate after that. As a matter of principal, I don't run tires in the winter below 6/32. The Colorado traction law requires 4/32, but that's too little in my estimation.

Well, thanks to Labor Day Weekend Discount Tire sale, I just bought BFG KO2 in stock size (265/60/18) for my Lexus today from Discount Tire.

DT gave me $18 off per tire from online price ($190 from listed price $208) AND 10% off final price via gift card (before tax).

Total for 4 tires including install fee/etc. = $851 (before tax). In addition i will be getting a gift card worth $85.10 (10% of $851). So, end price after rebate for 4 x BFG KO2 is $765.90 (not including tax). I will keep my stock Bridgestone Dueler HT spare where it is.

I will have it installed next week. Stock size is not in stock...so have to wait for them to come in.

Oh wow...i went on BFG website...and filled out their promotion...$70 gift card for KO2! So, in addition to getting $18 off per tire, i will be getting TWO gift cards...one from Discount for $85.10 and one from BFG for $70.

TOTAL savings today: $227.10. How about that for savings!

So, before tax, BFG KO2 costs $173.98 per tire (includes install fees etc.). Without install fees and without tax, BFG KO2 costs $151.23 per tire after rebates and discount. Insane to get BFG KO2 at this low price per tire!

Stock size comes only in E. My GX has adaptive suspension......so, i will be playing around with the settings to see what is best for the heavier tires.

When i do off-road, it will be over rocky terrain. So, i want the peace of mind of a strong sidewall.

I wanted something that is strong, reliable, and looks good.

Ran All Terrain T/As (replaced by the KOs) on two trucks, last being a 2002 Tacoma TRD. Always got roughly 80,000 on them, with a high percentage of rugged, bedrock and rocky off roading. I always ran stock size on both trucks.

I found regular rotation helpful. On my Tacoma, the tire shop that installed the first set filled them to 35# for the road. The owner told me that in his experience that on Tacomas that pressure worked best for pavement. I tried running at recommended factory pressures, but noticed quick adnormal wear. Since the Tacoma and 4Runner are similar in size and weight, I’d think 35# would be a good starting place. Off road, I henerally aired down to 15-20# depending on how long and where I was running. If travelling alone and not with a buddy who carried a SCUBA tank to air back up, I often drove up to 50 miles at off road pressures to air up with my shop compressor at home, having no apparent ill effects (took roughly 45 minutes to air back up with my portable air compressor plugged into a portable jump start box).

Yes, All Terrains definitely get noisy during their last 25% of life, as well as some nervousness in the steering wheel at speed.

My Tacoma is still shod with Cooper Discovery AT3 tires, which I had installed in 2016; the truck I gave my son and grandson when I replaced it with my 2018 4Runner SR5. I had no complaints about the Coopers other than snow/ice traction. In my small town, driving town streets I don’t feel as secure, the truck squirrellier and skidding at stop signs and traffic lights (the truck isn’t equipped with ABS). In deeper snow, they just don’t have the same bite as the BFGs.

I just priced Cooper Discovery AT3 and All Terrain KOs at my local dealer for LT265/70 R17 and the price was so close that I’ll go with the BFGs.

Well, my BFG KO2 are on backorder...so, i will have to wait 4-6 weeks.

On my 80 I have the KO2 in 315/75-16 and I have 14k on them and they still look brand new. With the new 3rd Gen it has some KO2 as well and they look great.

The KO2 as far as braking distance is one of the best especially with a heavier vehicle like the 80.

As of this year the Traction Law tread requirement has jumped to 6/32nds (3/16"). Not that most people pay attention to it anyway.
