255/80/17 regrets?

Thinking about the 255's when my current tires wear out. Anybody go with the 255's and regret it? I'm in socal, mostly dirt and rocks, some snow, mud rarely.

I have BFG 255/75. I've only had them for a couple hundred miles, but I like them a lot. I wanted something different from what I see around here. They ride well and my gas mileage is about the same as when stock.

I've had the 255/75/17 KO2's since 2016, and love them. 60,000 miles so far and still 7/32 of tread. They were very quiet until about 10K miles ago, and are now starting to drone a bit. I'll probably replace them with the same thing sometime this summer. Gas mileage didn't change when I put them on.

I have set of the Toyo Open Country AT2 in 255/80R17 on my ’04 that I use as my “winter” tires. I’m in the Chicago area. They’re allegedly hybrid at/mt tires. My 4R is a mall crawler, but I do drive in the snow and on the occasional rough road.

I have been very happy with them but, because they’re load range E, I have ~40psi in them, and the ride is kind of harsh. They’re 33.1” tall, but I have the daystar spacer lift kit (f and r), spydertrax 1.25” wheel spacers, and I had to do a medium amount of trimming/moving in the wheel wells and to the fenders (no bmc or uca mods) so they don’t rub. I think anything bigger than 33.1” on my 4R would rub the body mounts - it’s that close. My summer tires (255/75r15 yokohama g015) are 32.1”, and rubbing isn’t close to being an issue with my lift and spacers.

I have the winter tires mounted on 7-spoke 5th gen rims, and they look great.
