Eclipse AVN6610 on the way =)

Hi Guys,

I just pulled the trigger on the AVN6610BT along with the BEC106 & iPC106 and would like to ask some questions to prep the install when the items arrive.

The Scosche bracket kit I would need is Part#: TA1465B ? Can someone confirm this on the AVN5510/6610? I did a search and see that is what other use for the 5500 & 6600.

Where do you guys mount the gps antenna? i know someone mounted theirs on the front dash on the left side. has anyone mount theirs in the same location as the oem? i heard told its inside the vent?

Anyone have a diagram of the location of the ground brake wire (what color)

If you are doing the install yourself, I would suggest not tapping into the parking break light wire. Just ground the parking break sensor wire from the H/U. Otherwise you cannot operate most of the Nav functions unless the emergency break is depressed.

I have an AVN5500 and assume it is the same on the 6610.

I did a search on this forum to find a wiring diagram for the wire so I could disconnect my GPS from it. If you cannot find something on this forum I can get it for you when I get home this weekend if you really want to connect to it.

You can also look at the parking break itself. There is a switch on it with a wire running up to the left of the steering column. This is the wire you will use. It terminates in the terminal box on the dash to the left of the steering wheel column.

I mounted the antenna just in front of the rear spoiler. The cable was routed under the rubber seal for the rear hatch. It has not leaked yet.

I used a Metra dash kit even though it is not the exactly correct. I had it installed by Car toys and they customized it a little. It looks very good. The screen automatically tilts and is flush with and parallel to the trim. A pic is attached I hope.

I also used a metra wiring harness adapter when I had the jbl systhesis amp and speakers. It worked great.

Do you really want to hook up the HU to the parking break? ???

Did you just ground the parking break sensor wire from the H/U?

Yes. I just attached it to a common ground point under the dash. This way I can use the destination functions etc... while I am driving and since I have the single DVD I can let my passengers watch a music video while I drive.

It was originally installed hooked up to the parking break light switch wire and it locks out many of the navigation functions and dvd player unless the parking break is depressed. This is an understandable safety feature, but it does not allow for a passenger to operate the nav for a destination search and rout while I am driving which to me is not acceptable.

I have read that some people have installed a switch on the parking break wire to the H/U so they can manually enable/disable the safety feature.

I'm looking at the AVN550 also.

Does the metra harness work with the steering wheel controls? Or do I need a seperate convertor/adapter for that?

ride: did you have the JBL 10 speaker system? My 4Runner does, will the metra harness integrate with it properly? Thanks

Wow that looks much better than the Scosche dash adapter I have. What where the modifications done over the stock Metra dash kit?

I've been searching for this dash trim ring since yesterday but haven't found it, could you please provide a part number?

I had the JBL Synthesis system. The Metra harness worked great with it.

The steering wheel controls work with no additional harness. The Metra harness is not needed for the steering wheel controls to function. They plug directly into the H/U.

The trim ring was covered with a grey textured vinyl that matches the grey plastic in the interior. There is also a black carpet placed under the bottom front of the unit so no light reflects into the small gap at the bottom. Other than that I am not sure what was done since I did not do the install.

I will be going back to car toys in a few days and can ask them what the part number is and what other mods were necessary. I will let you know.
