Firestone Destination X/T

I decided to give these tires a try in LT265/70R17 as a replacement for my worn out KO2s after approx 55k miles. It appears the X/Ts are only available in Load Rang E, with this particular size weighing 45 lbs.

I was originally looking at the new Firestone Destination A/T2 as I had good luck with the older A/T on a Bronco and I spend 90% of the time on the highway. However, that other 10% is on dirt/gravel, with the occasional mild rocky trails here in Colorado.

I know tire selection can be somewhat subjective, but looking forward to see how well they perform on the highway in snow and rain, in addition to occasional off road use.

Purchased these today in the LT265/70/R17 size and set pressure at 46 psi. Took them immediately out on the interstate to check out the highway ride and noise...they are fairly quiet with zero vibration at 85 mph, while the ride seemed firm, but not harsh.

So far, I am happy with the choice over the KO2s. Will have to wait for rain and snow to see how they perform there. Not quite as aggressive looking as the KO2s, but still look good in my opinion.

Will evaluate more this weekend...taking out on a road trip and minor four wheeling.

I was seriously thinking about getting the XT's in 275 as they are so light. I went with General Grabber ATX and they are so heavy....59 lbs. I lost 2.5 mpg with just the tires. I had the orginal Dunlops. Being the lightest AT tire on the market I wanted the XT but worried about sidewall puncturing going off road. Sharp rocks.

Anymore updates on these? Not finding a lot of feedback around online. I was looking at this tire vs the KO2 in 235 85 16 for my first gen. Tire rack lists the weight of those at 39lbs which is 9lbs a corner less than the BFG's in the same size. Can't help but think that would help out my little 22re!

I purchased 255/75/17 c load about 5 months back. At 40 lbs I couldn't be happier. Traction in snow and the trail is perfect for my needs.

Anyone have updates on the XT? Not a lot of reviews out there.

Any updates on these tires? How to they handle on the highway or rain? Did you have any issues with balancing? I have General Grabber AT/X in 265/70/17 and want to go a little bigger and cut some weight down. Thanks in advance.

My 5th Gen has LT275/70R17E General Grabber ATX tires (at 59 lbs each tire) that have a rim protector (kinda like that option) where as the Firestone Destination XT doesn't have rim protection. Also i'm worried about the tire side wall strength. Been to the San Juan's in Siliverton Colorado twice and never ever worried about tire sidewall cuts. Love the Grabbers but honestly the tire is too heavy for our (low engine torque at highway speeds) 4Runners. Heavy tires are better suited for vehicles with V8 engines. There has to be a reason the Firestone Destination XT's are 10 pounds lighter than other E load tires. I'm just worried about the side wall strength in the Destination XT tires. Having a cut sidewall up in the mountains while driving on a shelf road is not something I want to experience.

That's a fair point. I very much doubt it is an issue vs most LTEs but I too enjoy my Micky Thompson ATZ P3 in CO.

I agree on CO. While very unlikely to have tire issues in the San Juans, definitely not a place to get the short end of the stick.

Does anyone know if the Destination MT2 has a 3 ply sidewall?

Good looking tire, looks like lug is not as squared off as a KO2, may have a little better rolling resistance?

No issues. Highway is pleasant, wet grip is sufficient . 80% road 20% off pavement and camping. Still would purchase again.
