Ultimate Tire Thread

So I was thinking today about how it's about time for new tires, and how I like to get on here and see what everyone else is running and how they like them. I realized that there are suspension threads and other dedicated threads, but not one for tires as far as I can tell. So I thought I would make one so we can share our experiences with tires and make it easy for everyone's research. For ease of research I thought I would make a template everyone could copy, paste, and fill out. If anyone wants to participate and can think of any additional information that should be added to the questionnaire I would love the feedback.

Tire Brand:
Tire Model:
Mile Warranty:
Your Mileage on/out of Tires:
Load Range:
Size You Chose:
Dry Handling X/10:
Wet Handling X/10:
Off Road X/10:
Ice Handling X/10:
Comfort X/10:
Noise X/10:
Regular rotations? [Y/N]:
Would you recommend? [Y/N]:
Additional Comments:

So as an example, the review for my tires would go as follows:

Tire Brand: Falken
Tire Model: Wildpeak AT3W
Mile Warranty: 55,000
Your Mileage on/out of Tires: 25,000 will need changed soon
Load Range: XL
Size You Chose: 265/65/17
Dry Handling X/10: 9/10
Wet Handling X/10: 7/10
Off Road X/10: N/A
Ice Handling X/10: N/A
Comfort X/10: 7/10
Noise X/10: 8/10
Regular rotations? [Y/N]: No
Would you recommend? [Y/N]: Yes
Additional Comments: The 25,000 mile life for me shouldn't scare others. I drive the heck out of my Runner and I am not great about rotations so that is a big part of why I will need tires before the mileage rating. I had Dunlops and Cooper AT3 (not the 4s) before these Falkens and absolutely these Falkens are much better than the other two. I haven't been able to take my truck off road really but I did meet some mud getting to a fishing spot and when I did I didn't need 4WD. Wet handling is pretty fantastic compared to the Cooper AT3s I had on there before. I have not had any icy conditions to be able to judge that performance.

I'll play and will review my previous set vs. the set I just had installed...

Tire Brand: Goodyear
Tire Model: Wrangler Authority Tires A/T
Mile Warranty: NA
Your Mileage on/out of Tires: 15,000
Load Range: E
Size You Chose: 265/70R17
Dry Handling X/10: 8
Wet Handling X/10: 8
Off Road X/10: 10
Ice Handling X/10: 2
Comfort X/10: 4
Noise X/10: 6
Regular rotations? [Y/N]: Yes
Would you recommend? [Y/N]: No
Additional Comments: These tires use an unusually hard rubber compound that wears like iron. After 15k miles, they still looked new. But, this also meant that they were scary on packed snow and ice. They were also extremely heavy and despite running them in a stock size, they reduced my gas mileage by 1.5 mpg and were jarring on rough roads. But, unstoppable in the dirt.

New set...

Tire Brand: Cooper
Tire Model: Evolution MT
Mile Warranty: NA
Your Mileage on/out of Tires: 300 miles
Load Range: E
Size You Chose: 285/70R17
Dry Handling X/10: 8
Wet Handling X/10: 8
Off Road X/10: 10
Ice Handling X/10: NA
Comfort X/10: 8
Noise X/10: 5
Regular rotations? [Y/N]: NA
Would you recommend? [Y/N]: Yes
Additional Comments: First thing I noticed was the more comfortable ride and increased noise. Same weight as the previous set, but in a larger size. 53 lbs. Took them off-road in mud and rocks and the grip was amazing. 2wd took me everywhere and I couldn't get stuck. We'll see in a week how they do in snow since a major freak winter storm is forecast.

Did a bunch of snow driving the last day or so and the Coopers did pretty darn well for MTs.

Snow started out heavy and wet and super slick and they did amazing. Drove to work and it got cold and icy and they still broke traction far later than what I was expecting.

Traction control light never came on and I never put it in 4wd. Had to try to get the rear to break loose and it remained predictable and controllable. Very happy with the performance so far.

Good idea for a reference even though some may prefer individual threads...but:

Tire Brand: Bridgestone
Tire Model: Dueler AT D684II
Mile Warranty: 5 yr / 60k miles
Your Mileage on/out of Tires: 55,000
Load Range: SL
Size You Chose: Stock 265/70R17
Dry Handling X/10: 7 when new
Wet Handling X/10: 4
Off Road X/10: 5
Ice Handling X/10: edit: 2-3, not very good.
Comfort X/10: 8
Noise X/10: 7
Regular rotations? [Y/N]: Y
Would you recommend? [Y/N]: N

Additional Comments: These are OEM tires, 1st set went 55k almost to the wear bars but had started to squeal around almost every corner in dry conditions, traction was going away and they were badly showing their age. Got a 2nd set on a screaming deal while cash was short, and am regretting it. If you drive like grandma and never get into the wet these tires are ok. Wet conditions will find a lot of slipping in the turns unless you are extremely smooth, and don't try to brake suddenly and turn into somewhere at the same time.

There are many much better tires out there at same or lower price point. Why in this day and age Bridgestone is selling a 360/B/B tire at almost $200 a pop is beyond me.

In all fairness they are quiet and do decently in snow up to about edit 8" / 20cm, and in light offroading dirt/grass they were fine. With this vehicle I have nothing to compare, will return to the thread after I have the Coopers put on in a bit.

Additional Comments:

-Great tread life with regular rotation at every oil change (I do my own maintenance). Quiet on highway.

-In slimy mud they weren't great. They filled up and truck would slide around....not talking about deep mud, just slimy conditions.

-Not good at all on slushy or snowy roads at all....pulled hard the minute there was any build up on the road.

I wouldn't buy them again due to winter traction. I went from BFG AT KO2s on the truck I had before this one and was very disappointed in the Wranglers. I had 60s on my other truck and did not have the pulling problems with the BFGs. Edited to add...Previous truck was an LX470 with full time 4wd, so the comparison to my current full time 4wd 4Runner is pretty legit.

I can't say anything bad about tread life though. About a month ago my alignment really started to go south, so I just ran them as is, knowing I was going to get new tires before winter really hit. They never showed any abnormal wear until my toe and camber started getting bad.

I replaced them today (11/11) with Goodyear DuraTracs of the same size. I will update after winter.

Is there anyone here who runs a set of Toyo Open Country MT on their truck? I need to know how this tire performs on and off-road before availing of a set during the Black Friday sale.

Thank you for this thread! I'm in the market, but the reviews on websites just don't cut it; I need real life data and this is exactly what I'm getting!
