Questions/Concerns about my new '04 Runner!

Hey all. Just picked my '04 4runner Sport up last Friday, and I LOVE it. I just had a few questions about it however, since it's certified pre-owned and I have a 3k comprehensive warranty for anything that's broken. (And the "MAINT" light came on tonight on the way home from work, so I'm a little irritated about having to take it in already and thought I'd check on a few things from seasoned vets beforehand...)

A few things I'm wondering:

1) Is there supposed to be a bell or warning "beep" or "ding dong" noise that sounds while I have the lights turned on and the key is out of the ignition (basically, the "hey, your lights are still on, make sure to turn them off" sound)? It's been this way in every other car except this one, wondering if maybe that's broken...

2) Should there be lights under the buttons for the Lock/Unlock and Windows Up/Down on the drivers side door when the lights on the car are turned on? Currently, the only one illuminated is for the window up/down for the driver's door (but not the other 3 window up/down buttons) and it looks like there may be lights under there but they don't come on (or are burned out) so at night I can't see them and have to reach down and fumble with the buttons to lock/unlock the doors, which is slightly annoying...

3) Any reason just the driver's door unlocks when I shut the car off? It's pretty annoying to have to get out and hit the unlock on my remote to get all the rest of the doors (including the trunk) to unlock to unload the car, etc. Shouldn't all the doors unlock? Perhaps this is just something I'll have to get used to.

Right now, those are the only things I'm unsure about. (Dealer forgot to give me the user manual so I can't check on them either >:P)

Thanks guys-- and I'm sorry for posting this in the Electronics section, but some of it is, well, electronic! :-)

Thanks again--
Nick

If you have a mod move it to general discussions you might get more people to look at it.

1) Nope, no bell\ding\chime..etc when lights are left on. That is one of the firs things I noticed as well, as all the GM's I've had in the past did this. However, the lights will turn themselves off after few seconds.

2) Again, nope... it sux, I know I've complained about this one too. Only the one driver side auto up\down button is backlight.

3) Can't answer that one, I have an viper alarm installed and all doors unlock when I turn off vehicle. If I remember right, it's been a while since viper installed, only driver door unlocks by default. There may be an alternative setting in the manual, I'll try to check mine tonight when I get home.

as for number 3:
you can program your doors to all unlock when you put the car in park, that way you don't have to hit the remote. the process for doing that is in the manual, which you don't have, so try searching on here for the info. i know that i have seen it posted before.

The "MAINT" light comes on about 700 or 600 miles before an oil change is due. That is if the previous owner changed the oil every 5000 mi since new. I comes on every 5000 mi. For example:

@ ~4300 mi the light will come on to let you know that an oil change is due at 5000 mi.

@ ~9300 mi the light will come on to let you know that an oil change is due at 10000mi.

and so on.

I would guess that your mileage is at one of the 5000 mi increments. The light has no intelligence and just comes on at the prescribed mileage. Hope this helps.

Owner's manual covers turning off the Maintenance light (was covered on FORUM too). If I recall you hold the Odo reset button when the main odo is showing when you initially turn on the key. I thought it reset it for another 5k interval though --- so if you reset at 3k it would come on again at 8k (vice at 5k then 10k then 15k)??? You can order the owners manual from Toyota - suspect dealer has some used ones stashed away too - I'd ask them for one.
