200 4runners got stolen in my city

6 alone last night
they end up on the montreal port before owner even reports em stolen
ugh

i just picked up a 2021 venture and paranoid Af
they use a signal amplifier to pin your key fob as long as its like 100ft from them so basically if its parked outside your house and your keys in the house they are able to copy code and open doors and start it

anyone know what kinda alarm / gps tracker i can buy and install or any other anti theft ideas?
proximity alarm would be nice

i bought a wheel club but then saw this video....

Faraday cage. Place your keys in a metal box with a metal lid. You could use your freezer or microwave.

thx just ordered one..

you think its enough ? i hear they can also unlock door via normal methods and then have a hand held tool that they plug under the steering wheel that copies code from the CPU of the car if they cant get signal for the fob

if i can get an alarm that turns on when doors get opened and have it paged to me thats good right ?

Wonder if one of the old, lead-lined 35mm film bags, used to travel through airports before the world went to hell in a handbasket, would work to electronically hide your keys in the house . Used one in my youth while traveling Europe to protect my film from exposure in airport scanners. Seein' as they aren't used anymore (film? WTHs film?), I wonder if they'd be listed for cheap on EBay or somewhere else.

As far as the car goes, can a FOB be detected by the car if the car battery's disconnected? If not, then that may be a secondary way to block the scenario you're describing, at least long enough to make those thieves move on.

Of course, that ain't gonna protect against us old timers with shims and hot-wire capability.

Easy way to test. FOB in the bag. Does the car recognize it?

There are metal lined bags that are a faraday cage.

Just put a hidden kill switch somewhere. Use an aux light switch for a kill thats not hooked up to lights. Somethings simple for you and hard for the thief.

I read about this recently on Driving.ca, crazy that they stole that many in such a short time. I think one of the many suggestions, a faraday cage, might be the best....but if they want the vehicle then they'll get it. I'd also suggest covering your VIN plate on the windshield - I don't know about any other easy places for them to find it.

We toss all of our keys that have fobs/transponders as well as our garage door opener in a metal container with a metal lid for this reason.

Toyota doesn't sell 4Runners anymore with real keys rather than the keyless fobs?

Some models use fobs, a few use keys.

Samsung and Apple each have released a tracking fob. Cost is around $25. Hide one in the car to assist in finding the vehicle.

You could put a pull out type breaker for the ignition. Impossible to start and they could only know how to bypass if they knew where the breaker was.
