JL Audio Box Installed....

Installation Manual

Sounds Good, Looks Good, Fits Good

BUT!

-Dual Deck Cargo thing Does NOT Work
-Limited Models, you have to take out the whole panel and remove the insert, where the sub is.
-You cannot use the cargo net any longer, since it uses a bolt where the clip thing is.
-You have to drill the floor of your truck to bolt a metal piece in to hold the unit.
-You lose one storage compartment.

j0, Did you buy the box or did you get the instaltion information from the net? The installation document shows a different look after installation than the website finished installation. I took some mesurements this weekend and it seems that a custom MDF box should be able to hold a 10" sub in that area. I measured about .7 cubic feet, which should give clean bass instead of the rumble.

I have the box installed in my 4Runner.

It does have clean bass.... if you look at the picture:

Where those grooves are before the subwoofer, is empty, there is nothing behind that, its just kinda like open space.

This finished pic is about the same, but does not protrude that far. Ill take pics later and post them.

To each there own. I love how it doesn't take up any of my cargo space.

Titanium,

You don't have any cargo area left with that set up. If I was to get a sub I would HAVE to go with the one for $450. I need the utility of the truck, that is why I buy them.

j0,
That looks really nice and clean. If I only had the $$$ I would have done the same thing. I hope my box comes out that clean. Did you mount the amp under the seat?

Thats just a poor design for a box. A custom design would have allowed a much more efficient use of the space. You could make yourself a custom MDF box for less than either of them spent, with better SQ and efficient use of space.

JO,

Did you tap that box into the factory sound system? I am thinking of doing this, or taping into the factory low level inputs (if this is possible) and running and amp for that box.

I too have the stock 10 speaker NAV system and would love to bet better bass. Actually I would love to slap my old show systems in this 4Runner but I do not want to loose my Nav, spend the money on aftermarket navigation or deal with a truck that has a completely customer system.

I used a factory Camry navigation, and used the low-level input there, and connected to Phoenix Gold Line drivers....

That goes into my 5 channel Alpine amp, which powers the sub, I removed the factory amplifier and sub... I'm actually thinking of relocating my amplifier behind the sub box so you cant see it.

I just got in my new 4runner nav, with wiring, so I am probably gonna change everything so I can have a reverse camera, and a cd-changer.

j0, How do you like the bass coming from you sub? My box is almost complete to hold a 10" sub in the same format as yours. However last night I wired the amp for the sub, and threw in my 2x 12" from my last car, just to make sure everything was working. I think I made a mistake, hearing my 12"'s again is making me second guess a single 10" enclosure.

A single 10" is a single 10" I had a single 12" which produced better bottom end, but took up space... I can't complain...
