Well, my Falken WildPeak A/T3W Tires Sure Got Noisy After 12k Miles

Hello All,

I've been meaning to post this simply for search posterity, as well as to welcome any related comments.

Firstly, I love these tires (265/70R16). They have taken over some gnarly terrain, and gotten me back (most importantly), over the past almost three years and 16k miles. They handled 12+ inches of snow as well as some nasty mud, desert downpours and various other weather and terrain challenges. IMHO, these are an excellent P rated tire for moderate off-roading.

After about 12 or 13k miles, I noticed a loud whine/road noise at highway speeds. Somewhat annoying (and noticeable enough) given how quiet they were for the first 12k miles.

I simply turn up the radio a little and continue of my way, but I do not recall ever having a tire get so noisy to the point I had to turn up the radio.

Given my usage, I expect to get between 30-35k miles before they need replacing. I do plan of buying these again unless there is an obvious reason not to, or there is a better tire available, but for a P rated tire that does an admirable job with off-roading, I think they are top notch.

Anyhoo, anyone else had this experience with these tires?

Eddie

Since you did not specifically mention either tire pressure management or rotation, it is worth asking. What pressure did you maintain and how closely was it monitored? Has the set been rotated and if so at what mileage?

Good point 5thToy.

I maintain 32 lbs. in the tires (checked ~monthly). The beads on these must be great as I seldom have to add more than a pound or so even if I miss my monthly check. The tires are rotated every 6k miles.
