Tire advice

So I've got a 2019 4wd 4runner, and I've just about worn out my current tires, some Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. I'm looking for a different set of tires to replace them with.

I chose the Duratracs because I like to offroad occasionally, I desperately want great snow rated tires for winter, and I like being able to get anywhere I want whenever I want. I often have to travel in crappy weather for work, and am often on some gnarly dirt roads too.

However, the problem with the Duratracs is threefold:
  • They handle poorly on pavement
  • They're really loud on pavement
  • They wear out super fast

So I'm looking for a replacement that handles roads a bit better, but still is "acceptable" for a bit of offroading (light to moderate trails). Oh, and they have to be great in the snow (for non-dedicated snow tires) Any suggestions based on these criteria?

Cheers!

Falken Wildpeak AT4W is a great tire. It’s an update to the AT3Ws. There are a lot that will fit your requirements imho. The BFG KO3 also just came out too.

Falken Wildpeak AT4s are nice, the KO3 (KO2s newer version) are wonderful in snow and ice, Toyo AT3 ride really smooth and are good in snow and on wet pavement and the Yokohama Geolander ATG015 are good. But all of these are nice allterrains, the Duratrac is actually more of a hybrid, similar to the Toyo RT and Nitto Ridge Grappler. Personally the Nitto Ridge Grappler is my favorite of the hybrid tires for overall ride comfort, offroad traction (overall in all terrains) and overall wear longevity. I ran duratracs on my 14 and they are fine until they cup or wear unevenly. Once they go, they were gone for me. The RT and Ridge Grapplers wear consistently and are correctable if you notice some uneven wear (from lack of rotations).

Thanks for the tips, folks. The Falken's are looking good as I'm leaning towards an AT rather than an RT, I think.

Toyo AT3. Wearability and noise is much better than my previous Duratracs.

I'm with you on the Toyos. The set I have on are great on dry, wet, snowy, icy etc pavement. Next set will be the same, or the next generation, if they're out by then.

Have fun all!
