My JBL amp has had the battery drain issue for over a year and I've just been putting up with it and pulling the fuse when parked for more than a couple days; the stock JBL sub finally blew, so I pulled the trigger on some basic new stereo gear:
- Infinity Primus 6002A Amplifier
- Rockford Fosgate P3SD2-8 Subwoofer
- Rockford Fosgate R1675-S Speakers (4)
- Kenwood Excelon DMX908S Headunit
- Metra 95-8210 Dash Kit
- Metra 70-8117 Amp Bypass Harness
- Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Adapter
Ite
- Other various brackets and adapters as recommended by Crutchfield
Plan is to put this new amp (bridged) and sub in factory box, with new power line from battery, and run the speakers straight from the new headunit with the bypass harness.
Day one progress:
- Took apart trunk, removed old amp+sub unit
- Fabbed up some ghetto-fabulous brackets with pipe straps and zip ties, to mount new amp in OEM JBL location
- Drilled new holes to mount RF sub in OEM sub box
- Wired up new sub through grommet in OEM box
- Grounded new amp, ran the new power, RCA, turn-on lead up under the front passenger seat
Day two plan:
- Remove center console tunnel and OEM headunit, finish running new wiring to headunit area and battery
- Figure out the rest of the connections I need to splice into the Kenwood harness from the OEM harness, and get ready to plug in
Day 3 plan:
- Metra SWC adapter and mic install
- Hook up and setup headunit
- Remove all door and speaker panels
- Figure out wiring plan for tweeters, and see how much work will be needed bracket wise to install new mids and tweets; disconnect/remove front-center speaker
- Start replacing door speakers?
Day 4 plan:
- Finish replacing all speakers
- Hook battery back up and test it!
More. progress pictures and updates as I'm able to get to it.
You have (had) the JBL 330 watt, 10 speaker premium stereo? I'm not familiar with the battery drain. So far, other than the blown subwoofer it has been a good stereo. I hope it works out well. I'll be following your build
