"Rocky Mountain All Terrain" Tires - Discount Tire House Brand

Hi all -

I have searched and haven't found much on these tires. (Maybe the search doesn't work because "all terrain" and "rocky mountain" gets used a lot of other places...)

I took a chance on the Discount Tire house-brand tires. They're called "All Terrain" and the brand is "Rocky Mountain" - a Discount Tire house-brand.

I have these installed on our 2004 4Runner in a Standard Load (SL) 265/70/17.

PROS
  • Price is great at about $120/each at the time of my purchase
  • Made in USA (maybe why they're cheaper? No import tax?)
  • 50,000mi treadwear warranty
  • Light Weight - 39lbs/each (good for my use-case)
  • Low Noise on Highway (quieter than my 70% worn out Hankook Dynapros, anyways)
  • Good tread

CONS (or unknowns)
  • None, really so far.
  • Not sure who actually manufactures these tires.
  • I have no data on how well they handle snow. I have snow tires I run in the winter, but I'll try to take these out snow-wheeling this year to get a data point.

Just posting for a reference if anyone else is looking at getting them. I'm not looking for a debate on LT vs standard load tires for off-roading

Cheers.

After reading some reviews from a Tacoma subreddit it seems people seem to like these for the price.
I couldn't find a mention of someone running them past 5k miles so longevity is still to be determined but for a budget tire I think these shouldn't be a bad choice.

a name brand with good reviews should still be the way to go but I wouldn't rule the Rocky Mountains out entirely.

They are manufactured by GITI, a Singapore based global tire manufacturer with a plant in Chester, South Carolina.

Discount tire brand

I would not be concerned as usually tire manufacturing companies produce tire products for many brands. So it is likely well made.
As mentioned wear will tell if these were a good value.
Personally I would not select such a tire when tire blow out failure could cause an accident.
Remember the First Gen Ford Explorer tire blow outs from delaminating tires.
I often drive at speed on hot summer highways with steep road shoulders and ditches. I visually inspect my tires every gas stop. I use name brand tires for peace of mind.
