Upped my tire size to 265/70/17 and getting rubbing, help.

I upped my tire size to 265/70/r17 and I'm getting rubbing while I turn. After looking on the forum here I thought the size wouldn't matter. How can I fix this?

How bad is it rubbing ?

I've personally not heard of that happening with up size to 70's.

What type of tires do you have on ?

I think it depends upon the the tread pattern you are using.

I just bought a set of Good Year Wrangler with Silent Armor 2 days ago and I have intentionally tried to get some rubbing but I do not find any. These are also 265/70/17.

A few other threads on these boards have reported the same rubbing, but it is with various tires.

Not to high-jack, but where did you get them, how much did you pay and what do you think? Your T4R is new right? Did they give you anything for your old tires?

P rated or LT (pro) rated?

TIA

Not all tires are created equal...even if they have the same set of numbers on them...

If you take the 265/70R17 size and look at various tire specs (such as tirerack), you might see that there are some significant difference between manufactures and models (even in the same class of tire).

Things likes section width, tread width, weight, tread depth and even overall diameter can be slightly to significantly different.

How many miles have you put on them?

If they are rubbing that much, I'd take them back and have something else put on. Unless you are lifting and trimming...

cokid

I have those exact tires (same make/size), check my sig. Anyways, I have never rubbed even if I tried, and I did. btw, the spacer lift is not installed.

to answer your question

you could get a set of spacers to move the wheel out a bit, or add lift.. it really depends on where it is rubbing. Sometimes a little plastic can be trimmed away, or if you are rubbing the skidplate it can be pushed inward.

Also realized that given a particular make and model of tire...there might be measureable (sp?) differences between the P version and LT version...

What about putting a 1" leveling kit on , that will give you plenty of clearance to run any 265/70/17.

I got them at Tire Warehouse - www.tirewarehouse.net with a set of 5 running me $1,019. This was $50-$70 less than anyone else out there including Town Fair Tire and the local all Good Year dealer.

These are on my '07 T4R Sport. Unfortunately I did not get anything for my old tires. I don't like throwing away coin, but it was not a big deal for me because I knew I was getting these tires.

As for the Silent Armors - so far I have dropped about 1.5 mpg based upon my assessments. Smooth riding tire, especially on these country roads in the sticks. Looking forward to getting out in the first real snow storm to see how they do.

Personally I wanted a more aggressive tire and if it was not going ot cost more for the Mountain/Snowflake Canadian rating then why not?

Tire Warehouse put in the Nitrogen as part of the tire care package so I can top off every time I need to for no cost with free rotations - but I rotate my own tires anyway so it is not a big deal for me.
