muffler? or muff AND repipe?

im going to be purchasing a muffler soon, and having my muffler guy install for me...

im considering repiping from the muffler back and out the side again, with a nicer looking pipe instead of just a tip...just for cosmetics

is this possible? if so, should I just have it ALL repiped instead?

also, how much hp gain will I get by installing either a vortex or magnaflow muffler vs. one of those PLUS repiping?

THANKS!

Unless I am mistaken, a muffler by itself will not give you any added horsepower. Mufflers only give you that deeper sound. Some say that it MIGHT give you slightly more passing power, if you are already at higher speeds. But this information is based on consumers reports, and they probably just feel like they have more power, because the sound of the muffler makes them think their truck is more powerful. But if it does, it will only give you a slight increase, and only at high RPM's.

If you want more power on top of the deep roar, you need to get an entire exhaust system, not just a muffler. Which will run you more like $899.00+ as opposed to $89.00-$150.00 for a muffler.

If you buy a muffler, make sure you are getting it for it's sound, not for power, because you will probably be disappointed if you only want it for extra power.

well I mainly want it for sound, but I assumed it gave a LITTLE extra power...I may do a complete exhaust sometime down the line, and my muffler guy only charges around 3-400 for a flowmaster system...so...not bad?

honestly,

if you are going to spend 300-400 bucks, you might as well purchase a fully mandrel bent T304 cat back stainless system from magnaflow.

in addition, flowmaster mufflers really dont flow well at high rpm due to the chambered design. you will actually loose power over a straight through design.

if you are going to spend money, spend it wisely. Save your cash till you can get the magnaflow setup.

Like he said, Flowmasters will sound much deeper due to its chambered design. But a magnaflow will give you less of a deep tone but better flow due to its straight through design. If youre going to change it now, get it right the first time. Its not worth changing the muffler now and then replacing it with a catback later on.
