3.4L supercharger

In case you haven't noticed, Toyotaparts4u.com is now selling the TRD supercharger for the 3.4L V6 for only $1999.

I keep getting tempted to buy this every time I see the price drop. I read Gadget's supercharger article about the stock transmission not being able to handle the extra power. I am wanting some more opinions on any transmission work that would have to be done to accomodate the extra power. My '97 4Runner only has 62k miles on it, so I would think the tranny would still be in decent shape. Has anyone added a supercharger recently or had any problems with their transmissions holding up?

Supercharging a 3.4

I’m curious if a stock 3.4 non SC can handle a SC without any internal upgrades?

Yes, it handles it with ease as our engines are overbuilt by Toyota with a forged crankshaft, forged pistons, etc. The 3.4L supercharger kit was initially a dealer-installed option upon purchase. About 5 years ago Toyota dropped the TRD supercharger line but Magnussen picked up production again and made an identical kit, minus the TRD logo on top.

They do run a tad bit lean on fuel but it's nothing to be worried about. There's kits like the 7th injector by URD that'll add more power but it's not necessary to run it. They will run great as they are, just know they produce more heat so you may have to change things like the transmission fluid and engine oil more often than you currently are.
