Question rs3200 install in 1998 limited 4runner

hey everybody,

I am new here but I have been looking at the other posts and it seems like a great resource and community! I have a question for you all. I have a 1998 4runner limited that I bought used. When I got it it had an aftermarket alarm system installed, the remote broke and instead of trying to track down another remote (it was a really obscure brand and I didnt not really care for that particular alarm system) I wanted to go back to the factory keyless entry/alarm system so I got online and I found that the rs3000 system was no longer aviable. I was able to get the rs3200 system and install kit. I found the Install guide online and I am afaraid that the rs3200 is not really plug and play with my car, as it would be with a newer car. What I was is wondering if anyone knew, if I connect the harnesses to the "brain" of the system, what is the function of each of those direct wires coming out. the harness from the old system is still connected and all of the wires on it are labeled with their function. So what I was thinking if I can find out the wire pattern/function for the rs3200 system, I could just skip the new harnesses and stuff that came with it, and just wire it up to the connections from my old system. effectively just replacing the "brains" of the systems. If any one knows or has a wire diagram or wire pinout for the rs3200 system can they share it? even if they just know a few of the wires, anything can help!
Thank you all in advance!
-david

I sure would not mix pieces of the two --- the RS3200 is and easy to install unit - okay after removing the dash pieces. It requires no wire splicing. Ctting wires and splicing or wire taps leasd to hart to track down Gremlins down the road. I would remove all of the old unit and ensure the spliced wires are soldered and shrink wrapped.

yes it is an easy to install unit in a car that it was designed for. the 1998 4runner was designed for the rs3000 not the rs3200. But because the rs3200 is no longer aviable, and I was only barly able to locate a 3200 system, I am trying to figure out how to make it work. I know it is definately not an optimal solution but, I am really interested in making it work. If i can find out what wires serve what purpose I believe I can make it work. THanks for your help though

Rs3200 in 98 t4r

I know this is old as hell but I’m curious if this was ever solved. I have a 98 limited as well and hoping to be able to install the rs3200 as well despite it not being designed for my baby 😬
