magnaflow on a 4.0 v6

I am trying to pick an exhaust for my v6. I am thinking of possibly just getting a muffler and having it welded in. I a curous as to what the size of the muffler is that comes with the cat back system because I will get the similar size muffler for my truck. How does it sound on the v6? Is it deep?

I have searched the forums and the majority of the magnaflow threads talk about the v8.

Thanks

Does anybody know the size of the muffler that comes with the cat back?

I know there are some out there with this exhaust on their v6. Is it throaty?

I have the Magnaflow on my V6 and it sounds great IMO. It's throaty when accelerating but isn't overtly loud when cruising on the highway. I'm sure there is a drone, but I don't really notice. I ride a motorcycle, I like it loud 8)

I'll get some measurements for you when it gets a little warmer, it's 17* right now

Thanks a lot. I found on 1 website that the muffler for the catback is 5x11x22. I think that seems about right based on the pictures I have seen. I already had a nice magnaflow tip put on my exhaust when I had the resonator removed and the exhaust turned out the side. Because of this I want to just get a muffler and have it welded in. The piping is already 2.5" stainless steel.

Got a magnaflow welded into my exhaust system today for $200. I've had if for about 3 hours and I'm thinking of taking it out. It drones like you wouldn't believe. The slightest acceleration makes for ridiculous amounts of unpleasant cabin noise. I want a flowmaster 50 series SUV muffler. I'll give that a shot... Why not?

I chose a gibson cat-back, cheap, and nice sound.

The question is...which muffler did you get? There are numerous mufflers that fit our 4Runners and the general rule is the smaller the muffler the louder/more drone you'll get. I have the quietest Magnaflow on mine this time around (5x11x22) with the resonator deleted and side outlet and the thing is very very quiet. It'll come to life under WOT and have minimal growl on day to day cruising...no sound on highway. The best muffler in my opinion is the 5x8x24, which is just a touch louder than my setup...I'll eventually get that one again. Get on eBay and pick it up for $77 shipped and an exhaust shop will weld it on for $30, than sell your other muffler on CL for $50; easily justified.

@Seatown: I think I have either a 5x8x22 or 5x8x24, and actually I've noticed that my magnaflow mellowed out over the last few days. I like it MUCH more now. I'm probably going to go back to the muffler shop to do a resonator delete and a side exit. I have found that when driving with the back window open (as well as the other windows too) it smells similar to the aroma given off while welding or grinding. I hope that goes away with either time or the side exit. We shall find out!

Smell will go away for sure. And just be careful with your resonator delete, it might get a lot louder - especially on WOT. In fact, if you do delete it, let me know how it goes so I can know if its just me or not!

I have a 22'' Magnaflow welded in place of the stocker, when i removed the resonator, volume went from like a mellow 4 out of 10 to at least a 6-7 (and verrrry loud on WOT when warmed up). Like sounding like a drag strip loud. So now I bought a Walker replacement rear pipe (bolts on to the oem pipe above the axle) with a resonator to quiet it back down. Point being is that the change was quite significant (for me at least).

I really need a res delete. I'm just debating because I want a tip welded on so it doesn't look like crap, but that's gunna be a lot of money. I was looking at clamp-on 90 degree bends, but it's not mandrel bent so it's not good enough for my truck haha.

Guess I'll just save my pennies

Got my res delete and a 45-out with a black chrome tip.

Noticed a low growl with my magnaflow muffler, slightly louder on acceleration, normal noise levels at constant speed, and MUCH less exhaust going into the rear window while driving with it open!
