Spare Tire Storage Unit for my G500?

Hey all,

I need your help. I am looking for a storage unit that can fit into my spare tire rim. For unknown reason, Mercedes decided to mount my spare tire on the back door backwards to everyone else. Therefore, the pretty face faces inward, while the back of the rim faces outward toward public. I need a storage unit or lockable tray that can fit within the spare tire rim.

Below pic is NOT of my G, but you can see how the spare tire is mounted. I need an idea on how to use that rim space better...i was thinking of a lockable storage unit.

Ideas?

Put a lockable tire cover on and place items inside rapped in a towel to keep it from boucing around.

Well, i have that already...but the OEM hardcover does not fit my current mud-terrains. Yes, i could buy a bigger hardcover (from Hummer H2 websites), but i was looking for something cheaper...and something that can show off my Mud-Terrains.

Sorry that is the only thing I can come up with. The big problem, as you indicated on the first post, is that the mounting is backwards lending itself to very little marketing for such an item.

Hey Thai-
I know this is an old thread but I was sitting at Infiniti today waiting for my car and while reading an off-roading mag. I saw this from www.pakkratt.com and thought of you.... its not exactly what you were looking for but could work...

I have already solved my spare tire cover problem by extending the OEM lock to accomodate the larger tire.

However, your link will make many other G owners very happy!

Thank you.

Tia, I thought you are looking for using the spare tire inner section for storage of items that can be kept safe from stealing? Like SportRunner I guess we misunderstood your request.
