Question Tube step removal, downsides?

Been pondering removing my tube steps since my 4Runner is my daily driver and I have to wear slacks of some kind to work so hopping out can be a little bit of a dance, and if there is ice...well, it's even more fun to watch than to participate... ;)

Am seriously considering removing them but just looking for any downsides.. I don't think I'd need them to wash the roof, I'd just use a step stool anyhow.

My main concern is body damage from things being kicked up, but I suppose the tube steps protect the sides of the car less than running boards so since there are mudflaps in the front with tube steps... So, let me know your thoughts and maybe I'll pop them off tomorrow...

the tubes can save your life by providing frame support in the event of a side collision.

If you do any off-roading you should not remove them. They provide frames support, but also prevent body damage. They also keep rocks from popping up and hitting your truck, as you earlier mentioned. My tube steps have saved hundreds of dollars worth of frame damage and body damage. I cannot tell you how many times I've rubbed against a stump or log and it scuffed the steps instead of the paint.

Also be aware, I removed the boards from my 03 SE and found that when driving in weather, rain, slush covered roads, you can really hear the stuff hitting the bottom of the truck. It took me a little while to figure out what it was.

That being said, I REALLY like the way it looks with out them, and I had the same problem as you getting my pants dirty when I entered/exit the truck.
