Quiet All Terrain Tires for '96 4Runner?

Hi guys, I searched the forum for answers to this question and couldn't come up with much of anything. So here goes...

I have a '96 4-Runner SR5 with 150K miles. Finally time for new tires; the Goodyear Wrangler AT's were on it when I purchased it a year ago and they're finally in need of replacement. They have been OK but they roar on the freeway pretty badly.

I do 99.9% of my driving on the freeway and in the city. Low noise, quiet tires with a comfortable ride is my #1 priority.

I currently have 265/75/16s and I absolutely love the way the look with the slightly higher profile (stockers are 265/70/16).

I've found a few tires with good reviews---Goodyear Tripletread Forteras get great reviews on Tirerack.

Would anyone like to share their buying experiences who have applications like I would (all city/freeway miles)??

Any suggestions from experienced owners is GREATLY appreciated!!!

You actually chose a good example of highway all season tires, which is exactly what you need. I would choose the triple's only if you venture to the mountains in winter, otherwise you are paying for something more than what you need. I see a lot of michelin LTX on 3rd gens and the Xterrains get high marks here. For less $ you can try the new BFG long trail touring.

IMHO, i would go with Michelin CrossTerrains or, if you want something cheaper, then Yokohama Geolander HT/S series.

For your needs, I am just not a fan of the Tripletreds because they do make more noise than your average highway tires.

EDIT: sorry, i did not see that you wanted AT tire...if that's the case, then i recommend Bridgestone Dueler REVO or Micheline LTX A/T-2.

I have the yoko ats and to be honest, I dont even hear them on the highway. Plus they performed great offroad and were very affordable.
