GX470 headlights=4Runner headlights?

Guys, can this be done??

I like the stock headlights, but I wanted HID level viewability in my new 4Runner, can I take the Gx470 ones and stick them in?

will they fit??

Thanks,
Suneil

GX470 does NOT have HIDs...not yet, hopefully, it will come in 2004. Right now, the GX has projector headlights = looks like HIDs but just regular.

Hmmm, so, they're just projectors, I guess I didn't look close enough. . .WELL, the question still stands, is it retrofittable?? I just came back from lunch and was staring at someone's 470, looks VERY similar, has that V shape pattern, what do ya think Thai???

Thanks for straightening that up!

Well, probably not a good idea, because the headlight assembly looks different. If you can retrofitted, then it will likely cost $$$$.

Other than that, i don't know the answer. I think that IF you're gonna spend that much $$$ to retrofit GX headlights, then i would just get a set of real HIDs (from aftermarket vendors) to put onto your 4runner.

Good luck.

Post Direct Conversion to HID

Now that the question is raised. Is there a aftermarket product available now that can be retrofitted to the 2003 4Runner to give the vehicle REAL HID headlights?

well i guess there are two options.. One would be to just get a HID retrofit kit, and swap out the bulbs...that is probably what I am going to do, runs about $500. The other is to have your housings modified for HID's, and this could cost upwards of $1000. You could have a projector installed in them or whatever you like. The benfit to this is you get a better beam pattern and somewhat more light (this depends). To me, the retrofit kit may be the most cost effective. I should be getting them shortly, within the next to weeks, so I will post a review on how the beam pattern looks. I'm just worried about too much glare, however someone on yotatech said he has them installed and the beam pattern is fine. I think the reflectors in the 4 RUnner are similiar to that of the RX 300, from what I can tell by looking at them.

Why spend the money on the HIDs? Go to autozone and get a set of Sylvania Silverstar bulbs... Light output of 4000K... $20 each... You'll need a pair of 9005s and 9006s if you want to replace the high and low beams.. Give them a try... the $80 was worth it to me... also, the foglights use a a 9006 bulb as well, so that'd bump you to $120 for a full lighting upgrade.

If you're dead set on HIDs, check out www.hidfactory.com

Note that the new 4runner uses 9005/9006 so you'd likely need to use a kit that uses that bulb size, such as the Camry.

Just wondering if those xenon bulbs will work ok for the 4runner vs the Sylvania Silverstar ones. If not, how much brighter is the sylvania silverstars over the stock ones? Thanks

The stock halogens are rated at about 3200K, the silver stars are rated at 4000K (standard HIDs are rated at 4100K) and put a whiter light on the roadway. For more info and comparison photos, see Sylvania's Silver Star site at:

No. Provided you don't use a bulb that's rated higher than factory spec, (and the silver stars are not -- they're made by Sylvania OSRAM, the same company that provides OEM bulbs for most cars) you'll be fine. Those "FlyByNight Industries Titanium Kryptonite Bulbs" ( that are worse than the flashing blue light at Kmart) would be another story...

bryancos,
just to verify, the 9006 is for the low beams and foglights? Thanks.

Affirmative! 9006 is lowbeam and foglight according to the (GASP!) owner's manual. :duh: 9005 is highbeam. Before you go and spend $120 on six bulbs, I suggest just replacing the low beams and see how you like them. Autozone is pretty good about accepting returns if for some reason you want to return them. (I don't think you will, however)

I've got the Silverstars highs lows and fogs and like them better than the factory setup, money well spent in my opinion...
