Yakima and Thule both have great products. And the best thing is if you purchase it from REI and you are a member as I am, if you are not happy with it, you can return it for a full refund no questions ask.

So try out the Yakima first and if you do not care for it, try out the Thule.

And when you order it, do not have it shipped to your house since you will have to pay for shipping, you can pick it up at your local REI store, you will have to wait 2 weeks though, but well worth the cost savings.

I am about to purchase the same Yakima rack. I looked at both companies, and decided they are both great. I don’t think you will be disappointed either way. I plan on purchasing mine through rackattack.com. They list the KingPin2 for $136. They offer free shipping on orders over $150, so I plan to get a hitch lock as well to push me over $150.

By the way, I have no local REI. I wish I did.

Thanks for the links... the racks are much cheaper here than REI (or other bike shops). Guess I'll give it a shot.

i have one of each. both are very good and well made. my advise is to go with whatever you get the better deal on. the yakima seems to be a little better quality and holds the bike much more stable than the thule. however, the thule has a much easier clamp to use. unfortunately i have the thule on my subaru which is very easy to load the bike, on my 4runner i need to try to balance the bike way above my head while i fumble with the not-so-easy yakima clamp.

i bould the thule because at the time my brother worked at a thule dealer and i got it real cheap. i bould the yakima later beacaue rei was having a sale.

I guess I waited a day too long. I was just about to order the kingpin2 from rack attack and they raised the price. $136 to $170.

Thank goodness for google/froogle. I found THE RACK WAREHOUSE.COM that still had the KingPin2 for $136 and the hitch lock for $16. I think they have free shipping for orders over 150, but I didn't see it when I checked out.

From their website
Quote:
The Ground shipping charge for purchases over $150. will be deducted as "Discount" on your order form.

Go Thule. Excellent product. But you have to give Yakima credit for using an excellent vehicle for their picture.
