Got me on that one. Maybe that was the Toyota IPod cable, which I believe is WAY friggin expensive. I just installed the radio and the AUX cable. I drilled a little hole through the center trim right where the little cubby is so I could run the wire through that, then connnect my MP3 player. That way I can tuck everything nice and neat inside the cubby and out of sight.

Does the cable connect to the headphone jack on your MP3 player?

Yes it does. The sound is AMAZING! It threw me for a loop though as the stock plug for that input is no just waiving in the breeze. I plugged in the AUX cable and was like "Well now where in the hell does this go?!" Anyways, just taped it to some other wires along with the second antenna wire so tey would rattle. Works great. I even changed the start up screen to read "Shaun's 4Runner".

there's a local guy selling a never used take-off T1807 unit for $60, the price isn't bad considering these are running $50+ ship on ebay.
problem is he does not have the VIN#, and i called the local dealerships asked about the lock code, but the guy who anwsered my call seemed to be a complete dumb fawk.
so, here is my question: does the T1807 unit have a theft lock function? will it work if i swap it on my 04 without the donor VIN#?
thanks

There are no lock codes for ANY of the Scion H/U's.

Ok, so I am brand new here, just got my '06 SR5 T4R yesterday. I am pumped, I love it. A friend told me about this scion head unit mod and I was considering doing it, but what are the main differences btw the stock 4runner unit and the scion? I have the single disc with mp3 capability.

here is my take, correct me if I'm wrong since my knowledge is quite few years old.
there are 2 types of car stereo systems from the factory. the generic and fancy brand labeled.
generic ones, like in most cars, the head unit works as both signal source and power source aka amplifier. so, there's 1 pair of wires go to each speaker carries both the signal and power to drive the speaker.
simply, 1 amplifier powers all the speakers, higher the power output, louder the volume.
the fancy ones, such as Bose(GM, Nissan), JBL(Toyota), Nakamichi(Lexus). they are designed in different way to improve the sound quality. the head unit works ONLY as a signal source and a power switch but doesn't carry the power. each speaker is individually amplified by its own amplifier. 2 pairs of wire go to each speaker, this way, there's less interference between the signal and power since they are passing through different circuits. the amplifiers are switched on and off by the head unit.
there are as many amplifiers as the speakers(except the tweeters). the volume controlled by the output level or the amplifier, any way, just more complicated.
normally, you can't just put a new head unit to replace this kind of sound system, you have to do the new speakers, new wiring, new amp's.
