General Tire Grabber HTS. Who has them?? I'm thinking of buying tomorrow
I posted this in the tire section as well but i don't think that forum gets as much traffic.
Hey Guys,
I'd like some responses from some people who have put some miles on these tires. They get great reviews on TireRack but they are so cheap it kind of worries me. I've always thought of General as kind of 2nd rate. I did buy some general brand tires for my Lexus IS 300 a year or two ago and have no complaints.
I'm thinking of buying the 265/70/R17 tomorrow for my 2005 4runner limited 2wd. I have a stock set up and do only on rode highway driving in Florida.
Thanks for taking the time to respond!

well...i ended up buying the Bridgestone Alenza today....i was calling around and talked a TiresPlus manager into $800 including tax & mounting & balancing. Seemed like a pretty good deal so I pulled the trigger.
This was for the 265/65/R17 size. I was gonna go with the 70 instead of the 65 but I didn't want to have to mess with spare so I went with the stock size so they would all match.
Is that a decent price? I know many of you have the Alenza's

What came as part of the deal? Free rotation, balance, alignment? Was there an alignment in the $800?
What tires were you driving on? Do you like the Alenza's so far?

I was driving the stock bridgestone dueler 840's. I've only driven on the alenza's for about 2 miles so it's too early to tell...definitely better then the bald tires i was using...The $800 didn't include an alignment--that cost me another $59.99.

That sounds like a pretty fair deal. Alenza's in that size are $$$$$$$. I'm sure you'll enjoy them. They'll be quiet, smooth, hold balance and work great in the rain.

Very sorry to say I had to sell that 4runner last year thanks to kid number 3 (oldest is 4). It couldn't handle 3 carseats.
Anyway, Yes, I'm a fan of the Alenza's. In a funny coincidence I actually just put a set of Alenza's on my Toyota Sienna just last week. Bought from the same guy at TiresPlus and them to price match the discount tire price here:
Tire Products By Vehicle - Discount Tire
I don't think you can go wrong with them.
As soon as my oldest is out of a carseat I'm going to try to get back into a 4runner although I noticed in my 2011 Sienna the quality isn't anywhere close to my '05 4runner. I hope the same isn't true of the new 4runners too...
