Talking Smokers Kit / Extra 12V Outlet Installed

Well, this isn't much of a mod but... I wanted an extra outlet and decided to try the 'smokers' kit. Install was quick and easy albiet not cheap, around $65.

nice write-up. i actually quit smoking but i lift the ashtray part out and give it to the smokers in my ride..better than having ashes all over because people don't know how to ash out the window.

How 'bout just not having the smoke in your ride?

I like it and I would install one if it didn't delete the folding cover. I like the smoother look of it closed when not in use.

Me too! I would much rather pay more for factory parts such as this as to go with aftermarket. Looks so much better.

It's a no smoking car

I will add another outlet in the glovebox at some point. There's another member who put one over on the far left for a GPS too. I may do that too, I like that idea a lot. I'm just in a lazy phase these days

I really wanted an additional outlet with a 100% OE look. My girlie and I are always competing for cellphone charging and I have yet to find a 1-3 or 1-2 outlet expander thingy that stays in and works well. They all seem to migrate out but my cellphone cord and my GPS cord never do that Thanks for the feedback guys

I hard-wired this unit on the inside of my console using
velcro.
I left a good bit of the coiled cord so that I can move it
to the outside if needed.
I really like the lighted switch and now I can power my cell,
XM and still have one available for the passenger...all well hidden.

That looks good. Is it deep enough? Do the adapters "push" out over time? My biggest complaint was the 3 multi-port adapters I tried would migrate out of the T$R's outlet and push the various cords out.

I have not had ANY trouble with it at all. It is a well engineered unit and the switch allows me to ensure it is OFF when I do not want power running.

I left enough of the coiled-cord to allow me to pull it outside the console if needed, and it is held SECURELY with velcro on the inside, driver's-side of the box as well.

In my opinion, it is a clean way of having four outlets available.

The lid to the stock cubby/"ashtray" on my 4Runner wouldn't stay shut, so I had the dealer replace it under warranty. But...I got my buddy in the parts department to swap the optional "smoker's unit" as the replacement part! A nice $0 upgrade.

I like this unit better. I use the new ashtray to hold my cellphone. I'll eventually replace the cig lighter with a proper "12v" lid/cover.
