Question on my head unit and speakers

I recently bought a 05 t4r. Great vehicle but the stereo is, well, lacking. Frankly it sucks. Front door speaker on the right side is definitely toast. From what I can tell it is the standard stereo with cassette, cd, radio etc. I do not see JBL printed anywhere on it. This forum is great for misc. help and guidance. But I do have just a couple of questions.

The head unit. I simply want radio, with HD, CD, usb, aux input. I don't have a lot of bucks to spend....maybe $200 on the outside. What I've seen in the stores sounds OK but feel cheap on the controls. Also, will the remote control on the steering wheel work with a replacement unit? Recommendations?

Toyota or scion head units - Are they interchangeable? And are they any better than the stock unit I have? I keep reading about JBL and their incompatibilities. I presume I'm compatible with just about anything out there?

Speakers - I just ordered some Infinity 6022si's based on Crutchfields and this forums feedback to replace the front door speakers. Infinity does not make speakers that will fit in the back doors without major PITA install issues. I like simple. Any suggestions on good inexpensive rear door speakers that will complement the infinitys?

I'm not looking for any kick butt sound systems. Just something quality and capable.

Infinity has 6.5" coaxes that do fit the rear doors as I use to have infinity Kappas back there. Make sure you add some dynamat to the door if you're going to ad speakers. It will help deliver some mid-bass if you're not adding a subwoofer.

YOu could get a solid alpine HU that sounds great. For your steering wheel controls, you would have to buy an additional adapter that will allow you to use those buttons...they aren't too expensive, 20-30 bucks. For what you want though, you will have to spend a little more than $200 because the HD and the USB can be additionals with aftermarket HUs unless you pay for a more expensive one with them included.

If you want an OEM HU, I have my Urban Runner HU that has the portable Tom Tom nav that does bluetooth and can integrate with an Ipod with touch screen controls. It comes with a wiring diagram too so that would help with the connections. I posted it on the classified board with pics a few weeks ago if you're interested. Also, if your HU doesn't say JBL, you don't have it.

Good luck.

Assuming that you have a double din like my 3TR.....

I just ordered this Sony...http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665801112

The price is $250, but you can get them brand new off eBay for around $180-200. They are HD ready, you will have to get an HD radio receiver to get that....AND they are also compatible with your steering wheel controls, but you will have to get the box for it...I think they run around $50-60 for that.

But the cd player can control your iPod/iPhone (and I believe charge them too, has USB, aux, etc....

I looked all over the internet...you won't find any reviews on it...I guess it is brand new. Mine should be here on Friday and hopefully I can install it before I head out on a trip on Monday and then I will do a full review...but it was a good price.

Clarion also makes a double din...you can find it on Crutchfield...it is $200 I think.

I'll probably skip the HD for now. I'll probably get an Alpine as that what most of my friends have recommended. The adapters I see are running about 60-75 bucks right now. Seems kind of steep to me or maybe I'm not finding the right ones or looking in the wrong sources. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_127SWIJ...trol+interface

Anybody know where I get one cheaper?
