Goodyear Wrangler Authority
I am getting ready to purchase some new tires and was looking for some input from everyone. I am looking at the Goodyear Wrangler Authority... The tire looks like it is a very good tire with great off-road and on-road capabilities. Does anyone know anyone who has these on there 4runner or has used them? What do ya'll think? I'm very open to ya'lls opinion...

Is that the Walmart brand that resembles the Duratrac?

LOL I think so I just noticed on the website that it doesn't say Goodyear in front of wrangler. I just saw wrangler and assumed. So with that being said yes it is the tire at walmart. My other options for tires that I'm looking at are the Nitto Terra Grappler and the BFG A/T. But do you know anyone that has that tire?

I did some research into this tire and from what I have found it is a Goodyear tire. However it is exclusively made for Wal-Mart. At least that the rumor on some other forums. Has anyone ever heard of something like this before? (a tire being made only for one company) The price is not bad on these tires at all, 185.00 for 265/70 r17. And if they truly are made by Goodyear, which is what I'm reading, than i think this tire is an excellent option for someone that is not looking for a super aggresive mud terrain but still want the aggresive sidewall look of a M/T. Opinions?

I've read the same things you have. I'm not sure how I would feel buying a tire from Walmart personally.
You could probably get the Duratrac for the same price, and I think they look better.

Yeah the fact that it was coming from wal-mart is what was holding me back also.

Surely there are some good tire shops in your area that can get you tires competively with ole Wally. Wally tires are specially made for them to their specs, "Cheaper Than Anywhere Else". They certainly are not made to a higher standard and none of the employees will ever tell you that they are a better grade of tire than other shops with a straight face. You really get what you pay for. Buy your tires at a tire shop, your groceries at a grocery store, your sporting goods at a sporting goods store and leave Wally for the cheap crap that you plan on using once or twice and tossing it in the trash shopping.

Are these what you saw?
Goodyear and other tire mfr's have made tires for major retailers for years. Best to wait and see or at least find out where the cost cutting was made.
The tread looks interesting. A siped M/T pattern will perform both on and off road and in the snow. This comparison pic is the Authority's aside Firestone Destination M/T.
