Thanks!
That Hankook was on my list too. IIRC one of the great features (unless you're a roadracer) is the siping/tread. The tread is deep and the siping goes all the way meaning they should work good during the last 25% of their life. They look like a good interpretation of the well-liked Terra Grappler to me.
Nice choice in size I guess that's the 18" equivalent to my choice.
If you put a pic or two in this thread and a few sentences I'll change the title to include 255/70/18 for future searchers.
EDIT: GMZ, I missed your question, the spare fits fine

Lookin' good, that's a great tire size. I was going to go with that size but couldn't wait for availability.
They would be great for me for another reason. With my mpg computer, the combination of natural odometer error plus the 265/70/17s makes real mpg come very close to displayed mpg. On average, only .2 to .3 below. That tire size might have put it dead on.

Are these the same ones at Tire Rack for $108/ea? That seems way too cheap for a tire of this caliber. I might forsake a couple cases of ammo and buy these and put them in the garage until I need them.
Here is where Im looking at

Yep, that's the tire and the price on the 255 size is why I bought now I can tell we think alike.
I took the TireRack price to my local Goodyear guy. He priced at a higher number but the total was lower than $108 plus shipping.
If you're going to stock them for later I say order them

Good deal, I just ordered 5 from Discount Tire. I wanted to get the GYSA, but stock size would have ran me $1K for 5 so I am quite pleased now. Itll probably be a couple years at least before I am ready to put them on.

Alright, installed GYWSA in 255/75/17 and here my first impresiions. I will be comparing them to OE Mich CT which lasted a long time and were good on pavement but nowhere else really.
First thing I noticed when I got in a truck and start driving is ride height. I should have measured actual before and after numbers but it feels like I gained extra 1.5-2" of ground clearance just from switching to this size. I swear when I got in my truck I like OMG, did I just got a lift?? My friend commented right away - wow your truck is much higher of the ground now and has a nice stance. I believe this is a tallest tire you can go without a lift. There is plenty of room at the back but in front its a tight fit, no rubbing whatsoever and I tried full turns and flexing, no rubbing - confirmed.
these tires look a lot beefier compare to OE shoes
Tires balanced good with little weights except one wheel. On rough hard snow packed winter streets they felt less comfortable and surprisingly stiffer compare to Cross Terrains but CT's designed for comfort. On canadian highways we have a lot of cracks across the pavement (freeze-unthaw ground movement) and extra profile height didn't smoothened the ride. The places where I did noticed a lot of improvement is a large potholes and railway tracks, driving acroos them now is completely different experience, you just roll over
I cant speak of MPG for now but I suspect it will go down a bit since the extra weight
Then of course I was eager to try them in snow. Drove on town outskirts in open field to see how they do. We had about 15" of snow in December but I had a hard time to find some deep stuff since most of it doesnt stay in open areas and gets blown away.
As predicted Silent Armors performed flawlessly, I could not find a place to stuck. On a next photo you can see I drove through there once with diff locked in 4Hi and they were pushing it right through, seems like the only limiting factor is a clearance, that must be a rear axle marks, lowest point of 4Runner. No problems at all, can stop, then with some wheel spin continue to move forward. I had to try something also...
So I took 4Runner to a nearby lake. -7 F below, brutally cold, with wind chill more like -14 F. Even less snow in a middle of a lake but a lot of drifts on the edge where you can really get burried and so I did, TWICE!! So dont think these tires invincable
Dont have any pictures of my lake adventures since it got dark fast. But as soon as you hang on a frame you done hopeless (thats where lift comes handy). My buddy had to pull me out on Sierra with Blizzaks but every time we did it it was a brieze, just tighten the tow rope, and with my help it comes out with ease. My poor friend on Honda Ridgeline stuck and we had to yank the hell out of him, he could only follow our tracks, I was ridding a circles around him

Very cool! They look great on your rig, especially with all the snow
Your stuck on the lake adventure just highlights what we all know, specialty winter tires shine especially in the frigid cold. As awesome as the Blizzaks are now not so much in July

Thats why I opted for Silent Armors. I dont have a room to store extra set of tires, so good and reputable ATs for me is a must. I also spend 95% of my time on a pavement snow or shine thats why I ruled out Duratrac's, it was my top pick before this great deal came along.

No, I was surprised, they are barely 31" tall. As measured with my handy dandy Stanley Tape Measure.

I just went out and looked again, positevly no rubbing.
You're not gonna like this... The Spidertrax are making this tight. Option 1: Remove the front spacers and sell them to me cheap for the rear of mine Option 2: Several run 285's & spacers with trimming and mudflap removal. I'm not truly up on the specifics but I know they do it.
A final suggestion, have you had an alignment lately? If not you can try an alignment and request that the caster be set at or very near the maximum positive value (of the specified range).
