antenna replacement

hey guys,

i have a 94 sr5 v6. it has a motorized antenna, but when i bought it the exterior parts of the antenna were gone. i know the motor is still there because i can hear it when i turn the key on. i was wondering how hard it would be to put a new antenna in the same spot, 1) so i dont have a gapping hole in my truck, and 2) so i can actually listen to radio stations. i dont really care if i get a motorized one, actually i think i might like one of those smaller rubber ones that dont stick up as high as a normal antenna. also, if anyone can tell me how i would go about installing it, that would be great too. thanks a lot.

Ryan

pretty easy

I just did one this afternoon, and it is pretty easy...just go buy a replacement mast from the stealership (45 dolla, make you holla)...and have someone help you...

Put the antenna down in the antenna hole till you feel the plastic "chain" hit the motor gear. Then have your friend turn your radio off, and push the "chain" down till the motor grabs it. Then it just sucks it up and you are done.

Here is the catch...if you hear a grinding noise right now...you will have to take the motor out and take it apart. That usually means that there is a piece of the "chain" stuck down in the guide, and you need to remove it. It is a little more labor intensive, but not horrible. (this is what I ended up having to do)

If your old antenna comes out there is a some of the old white plastic strip still in there.

I would not suggest sticking the new one in without opening up the antenna motor.

First take the chrome cap off the top of your antenna base then just take the plastic inner fender off on the passenger side just enough to get to your antenna motor unbolt it and pull it out the fender cover there are 3 screws that hold the cover on open it up and take out the broken plastic strip.

put it all back together. then do as PBRme says tell someone to turn the radio on wait for it to stop, then as you push the new antenna strip in(it is attached to your new antenna) teeth to the front of your truck(I also put some silicone on the white strip) turn the radio off and feed the new one in.

Easy fix.
good luck

I'm trying to replace my broken mast but I'm having trouble getting the fenderliner out of the way. I'm having trouble getting the wheel well plugs out. What's the best way to get the fenderliner out of the way?

What year is your truck?

Mine has bolts look like 12mm you only need to remove like 8 of them just to get it out of the way.
