Strangest Question Ever??

Here is the question. I just bought a used 08 and it was an SR5, so it's fairly stripped down. It does not have a rear spoiler on the back hatch. When I drive in the snow and rain, I have to leave the rear wiper on.
You guys that have the rear spoiler, do you think that the air flow helps out keeping the trailing mist off the rear window?? I like the clean look of no rack and no spoiler, but I may have to put on a spoiler. What do you think??

Definitely not the strangest question ever.

I have a spoiler and it helps to keep the rear window clean. It deflects the air downward to blow rain/snow off the window. Personally, I keep Rain-X on the windows, so I don't use the rear wiper, but having a spoiler doesn't mean you won't need to use the rear wiper.

Net is, a spoiler is not required -- it's just preference. Would you rather have the (your words) "clean look of no rack and no spoiler" and use the wiper, or have a spoiler and use the rear wiper less often?

I have the high mounted (bumped) spoiler and I never have to use the back wiper. If I'm stopped it over hangs enough to keep the window clear and if I'm moving there's plenty of air to keep it clear too.

Same here. I only used the wiper once, to make sure it works and have not used it since. The air flow on the window is a bigger area than what the rear wiper sweeps and I can see fine out the area cleared.

The "humpless" spoiler is purely for looks. Does not keep the back window clean at all.

Thanks for the input. As I look at other 4Runners, I see many different spoilers. Which one is the humped one? Can you post a picture. I see some that have a gap and some that don't. Thanks for the help.
