[QUOTE=dchay;539269]Get the nav you want, not the E7003 or E7019 since its analog

What's the reason to go with a digital unit vs an analog unit? If you don't have the JBL amp wouldn't the analog E7019 be fine if the stock head unit in non-jbl systems is analog (or is it digital)?

I think he was just telling someone with JBL that the E7019 and E7003 wouldnt work for them. If you do not have JBL then yes you want to go with the E7019, I am not as familiar with the e7003, but that one will probably work for you too. I am in the process of installing the E7019 in my 4Runner (just waiting on the correct Nav disc)

Slightly off topic but I can't find this information anywhere on google or this forum. Does the Toyota OEM nav feature spoken street names or does it just tell you to turn now?

The E7003 and E7008 does not give street names. It does give turn by turn, but along the lines of "Left turn in half a mile.", "U S one oh one is on the left.", "Exit I80 west is on the right.", etc. It gives the audible voice about two miles ahead of exit on the freeway and maybe a half a mile in the city. When you're at the exit on the freeway or intersection in the city, it'll give two beeps at that location.

Those models are very similar, I honestly think they do. I have the E7009 (not installed yet). My mother's 2009 ES350 I don't believe says street names......I would have to check........even if it didn't, all you would have to do is glance down on the screen and make sure the zoom is all the way to read the street you are on/about to go on.....

I've been waiting for someone to tackle this swap, because I could never figure it out for myself!

I was considering having a Kenwood DNX unit installed, but a factory Toyota GPS would be my first choice.

Please keep the updates coming!

Ok, I got the bluetooth buttons for the steering wheel installed. That was a piece of cake. I went to remove the sunglass holder to find that "blue plug" that JBL equipped 4Runners have for the factory mic. No dice. I even loosed the headliners over toward the A-pillar and found nothing...........

Christian: You just installed one, did you have to go looking for it?? And if so, where did you find it(blue plug).

I have a 2005 Limited WITH the JBL..........this is strange....any help would be appreciated!!!

edit: Also: when I turn my lights on, the bluetooth buttons don't light up???? Am I correct in assuming that won't turn on b/c no Navigation Unit is installed?? (signal from the HU)???

UPDATE: Installed except for.........

Got up and started on this project FINALLY:

As per info found on this forum I installed:

1) installed bluetooth buttons on the steering wheel and ribbon cable.
2) Couldn't find the blue connector up in the headliner (next to the sunglass holder/map light assembly)...... It's JUST not there
3) Spliced into the VSS/Brake/Reverse wires (best place for the VSS, a bundle of wires behind the HVAC controls. Brake and Reverse I got from the upper left side of the driver's side kick panel)
4) Put my GPS antenea by the rearview mirror. I fished the cable through the dash, up the passenger A-pillar, headliner, then out by where the wires for the rear view mirror come out. (I think this location is best for signal)

Didn't install:
1) Factory MIC (as stated before, there JUST isn't a blue plug that is supposed to be there). I know there is another way to splice into the amp to get the mic to work, I'll have to try that.
2) Rearview camera (don't have one yet, still deciding how to mount it. I want to mount it where a factory one goes, but I dread cutting into the tailgate. Jury is still out on this one)

Questions:

1) What gives with that blue plug NOT being there? Are they only there from 2006 on??
2) My bluetooth button on the steering wheel do NOT illuminate at night. The plugs are secure, what gives????

Thanks a million!!!!

1) Bluetooth wasn't an option until 2006, so that's why the plug is not there. I bought an external mic and mounted it right below the speedometer. It blends in very well.

2) Did you also purchase the ribbon cable that connects the bluetooth controls to the audio controls (left hand steering wheel controls)? It's part number 84204-58010.
