dvd player in dash that has a USB port?

Hi all,

I'm loking for a unique (maybe) setup for a 3rd Gen. I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

I'm looking for an in-dash system that plays DVD's and can let me hook up my ipod/iphone. However, ideally I would love it if it also had a USB port input. I keep all my movies on an external hard drive (a little 500 gig USB powered harddrive) after I rip them using Handbrake. I take this little hard drive with me whenever I travel, generally plugging it into my netbook so I always have a ton of entertainment options when on a plain or a long roadtrip. I'd be stoked to find a unit that would allow me to plug in my harddrive and have access to all my ripped files.

The file format of the movies is mp4.

Anyone have any ideas of what I should be looking for?

I absolutely love it. USB is awesome (I dont even keep CD's in the car anymore). For video it plays DVD, DivX, MPEG-4 (i-tunes) and WMA. As for fit in the car:

That is awesome... looks like exactly what I would want! I wish I could mount it that high up in a 3rd gen! What's the model number of that?

With any of these units, there is only 1 USB input. So, you either have your ipod/iphone hooked up, or you have your USB HD hooked up. I don't know if these units support a USB hub...but that would be cool.

I have the newer Pioneer AVH-P4200DVD, which has the USB connection on the back side, keeping the front a little cleaner looking. The screen is larger too.

Just installed a Pioneer AVH-P3200 in my 2000 4Runner. Works great and is a big improvement in sound over the stock HU and Amp. The difference between the one I purchased and the BT unit is that the BT unit comes with the Blue Tooth module.

Dnx2150

Kenwood DNX2150, they have a usb port in the back. I ran the USB cable behind the dash into the fold out compartment under the climate controls and use a 16GB flash drive myself.
Very slick and hidden! Not sure if NAV is a priority for you or not Kenwood uses Garmin which is about as good as it gets.

Included the wiring harness and faceplate.

Fantastic deck. The button backlighting colors can be changed to match the orange of the climate controls which makes it look like it belongs there.

wow, lots of cool options. At the moment I think I am goign to have to wait it out and save up some dough, but these look exactly like what I would want!

Nav isn't a concern for me at all at this point.

Maybe another option - Sony HU

Sony has a new unit that might fit your needs (Google Sony XAV-60): No nav and the street price is below $400 (much lower in some cases). I'm in the same boat as you and this particular unit intrigues me; I want to get DVD receiver that can play external files/movies, but I don't need NAV. I haven't found anyone that's put it into a 4runner yet, but the reviews on Amazon look promising.
