Big 3 Ground points? - Toyota 4Runner Forum

I'm about to do the Big 3 upgrade on my 2001 4Runner. 2 of them look pretty easy to get to (ground right next to the battery and alternator to battery positive), but I can't find the last ground point. It comes off the battery negative, then it gets wrapped up with some other wires and then goes down and disappears somewhere.

Is there another spot that I can ground to thats easy to reach?

I'm not sure where that other ground wire goes once it integrates with the wire harness, but the third ground point is actually on the back of the engine block to the firewall. Here is a picture looking from the passenger's side at the back of the engine block. You can see the bolt, the original (small) ground wire, and my 2 gauge ground wire covered with black loom. I added the 2 gauge ground and kept the factory ground wire intact.

I ran the new engine block ground cable to the passenger's fender wall and attached it with a ground terminal screwed into an existing, unused bolt hole.

remember to remove all paint on the ground point, also ground an extra wire from the neg bat to engine, then to the frame itself, there should a bolt right by the brakets on the brake lines. remeber the body and frame are two different things.

I did the big 3 with 4 awg wire in my Maxima and noticed absolutely no difference in stereo performance or headlight dimming (I had about 700 watts total with 4 components and 2 subs). Best part was being able to say "I did the big 3 wire thing! Check out those big wires!" I won't be doing this in my 4Runner, not worth the hassle.

I believe one of the grounding wires from NEG that goes down thru the wiring loom goes to a spot on the oilpan right under the oil filter. 14mm bolt.

Correct, it’s a 12mm bolt. Ya can reach it from under the vehicle (point your ratchet towards the front & ya have enough swing to get it out & back in… if ya can’t get under the vehicle, then ya can reach it through the flap behind the drivers front tire flap that ya use to change the oil filter.

Just replaced both head gaskets.
Now I don’t have any dash components that work:
1) radio
2) Gauges
3) blinkers
4) climate controls (Heat & A/C)
5) door locks
6) window controls

Lights, horn, ‘Key in ignition’ beeper, Headlights, & Dome lights all work.

I can start the engine by going from the battery positive to the starter relay (odd of the 4) connector. I also get 12.6 volts through the 10 amp fuse under the dash.

I don’t have a ground going from the engine block to the firewall and pretty sure there wasn’t one previously. Ground by the oil filter is clean & tight, battery to firewall same. Alternator ground same. Diagnosis connector same…

HELP PLEASE
