I agree. It's one of the first things I did back in '04. Put a MagnaFlow tip on. Check the thread in my signature link. Didn't notice any difference in sound.

I'll bet it's pretty sweet w/ a V8. The resonator made virtually no difference in noise with the V6 (which is a good thing on a 'trucky' V6 )

You weren't kidding I like the cut on the tip. Tim, a long time buddy with a small shop, and I worked that. That was the most time consuming portion of the job. I am very satisfied but still considering a tip. I'm not big on bling but the right tip can look good IMHO.

Good pics, if I can pull the whole tailpipe to get my welder around I'll be doing the same thing soon!

We sawzalled the pipe. I told him if I didn't like it I may want the OE resonator/pipe back in. The saw provided the cleanest, most salvageable way to remove the pipe.

I would love to do this mod. Does anybody know if it would void any warranty? I have the extended 100,000 miles warranty and only have about 35,000 on it now so I don't want to go messing around with anything that the stealership can blame me for.
|
It absolutely should not. There is law and precedent on your side. Any mods from the cats back are usually not questioned (unless a crappy job rubs through something etc).

I'm working on it... I don't know how long it'll take me but I'm sure I'll get one
Another big plus is items on the right side of my hitch-haul won't get burnt/hot anymore

Rice--- What is the diameter of your tailpipe? It looks much bigger than CJ's.
CJ--- Why didn't you go with bigger diameter pipe? Your tailpipe reminds me fo the puny tailpipes that were on the prior generation Xterra!

It's a little the photo/lighting etc. I's actually a touch larger than the OE tailpipe. I didn't go for a big pipe because past experience has taught me that leads to resonating. Unfortunately the 'buzz' usually occurs at cruise rpm. Admittedly it lacks visual machismo but the lady friend is happy. When she's happy all is good

It may be bigger than the stock exhaust system itself, but it surely looks smaller than the stock pipe that was coming out of the resonator. I never measured it, but I'm pretty sure the stock tailpipe (off the resonator) is significantly larger than the stock exhaust system diameter.

Thanks to this thread and the others like this one I decided to do this mod. Super happy with it!! I don't notice any sound difference but no smells driving through town with the back window down! Here are a few more pictures of the mod.
