General Competition Grabber Finally Gets DOT Love
Depending on how much you've been connected in the rallying and baja side of things you may have been lusting after these for quite some time. Their popularity increased dramatically when Toyota's Fifth Generation 4Runner made its debut in the Baja 1000 sporting a fresh set and finishing second in the stock mini class. The concept of a DOT approved version of the Competition Grabber was first discussed at the SEMA convention November 2008 and I've been on this bandwagon for nearly as long. The design is nearly identical to its competition only tire with only slight augmentations in adapting it for DOT approval.
So they're finally here, but due to exclusivity arrangements you're going to have to visit 4 Wheel Parts if you're wanting a set before the end of summer. I have a set being installed this coming Saturday. Until then enjoy some scans from corporate that provides a little insight and a good picture of it. I'll be sure to get a proper review when they're on and settled.
Product description from 4 Wheel Parts website
Quote:
The new off-road addition to the Grabber family, the General Grabber DOT-approved off-road tire comes in a variety of sizes and is designed to perform on the highway and streets as well is engineered with rugged good looks and race-proven performance. A tough, three-ply reinforced body construction and a race-proven Duragen tread compound is designed to stand up to the rigors of off-road as well as highway conditions. General Grabber’s optimized tread design and multiple tread edges work to deliver great side bite and lateral traction. General has engineered the Grabber with what it calls AMST – Acoustic Modulation Sound Technology – a sound wave suppression technology that works to reduce road tires noise. The Grabber DOT-approved off-road tire comes in a variety of sizes and is designed to perform on the highway and streets as well.

not too bad... they are 224 each (285/75/16) and 260 each (315/75/16). The only prob with the 285s is that they are load range E while the 315s are load range D... theres more info on the 4wheelparts.com page.

Haha I saw that but it has to be some other vendor, 4 wheel parts doesn't even carry gps and Continental says the deal was from April 1-May 1. Too small a perk to alter any of my plans

I'm really interested to see how their road manners are since for the price they better prefrom well on the pavement if you were to put them on a daily driver.
I'd be really concerned how they preform on hard snow and ice but they look cool.

Speaking of snow..
Is it severe weather tested? like the Grabber AT2 have the "Mountain/Snowflake" symbol?
